Ok I just installed these pups,I think I did right I followed Lews instructions to a T,Heres my my take on them so far.Not sure if I have the height setup on them correctly though,Do they sound better closer to the strings?
If anyone knows?
I have them alittle less thean halfway!
First off,I had to play them through my PA as my amp(FENDER HOT ROD DELUXE)is in the shop being repaired,so its not a true/fair rating.
Through the PA they sounded horrible, had to turn my Ibanez TS-9 tube screamer all the way up to distort and it sounded like a very bad blown speaker sound!Uhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was very dissapointed at this time, thought maybe they were wired wrong or something.
Then I played them through a CRATE Bass amp I have and WOW!!!!!!!!
What a difference!Killer sound,bridge pickup really sweet,SURFER neck/middle,
very chimmy, buttery with a snap, but not thin like other single coil pickups.
And thats through a Bass amp!
With the HOT ROD DELUXE I know its gonna be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
These are definitely a KEEPER so far,Ill have a better review later.
Happy Turkey Day Everyone!!!!!!!

Cool...wait 'til you hear them through a guitar amp! :smack: :laugh2:

The way I adjust them, I hold the E strings down at the highest fret and then adjust the pickups to about 1/8" away from the underside of the low E and about 1/16" away from the underside of the high E String.

Then I see if I can get away with moving the bass side of the bridge pickup a little closer without pulling the low E out of tune when I play above the 12th fret.

If they are pulling the string out of tune, it's usually the neck or middle pickup doing the pulling and I'll start by moving the bass side of the middle pickup a little further away.

Then I play above the 12th fret and see if it's in tune now.

If it's not, I'll move the bas side (low E side) of the neck pickup a little further away until the beating/out of tune/strangle tones stop!

I always prefer my strat pickups lower than Lew's settings...Usually around 3/32 at the bridge and around 4/32" bass and 3/32" treble at the neck(My settings are probably higher though)...I adjust my middle pickup until I get the correct quack out of my 2nd and 4th positions...I also adjust until I get a good balance of all 3 pickups and also a balance across...Sometimes this takes a few days of playing and listening to get it dialed in the way I Like it...I Like to use my ears and my instincts rather than actual measurements...I've played strats long enough to know what sounds right and works for me...
