Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

So I have never tried the original big box hot tubes and not sure what other pedal sounds like it so I'm not sure how this dirt pedal will sound or stack with fuzzes but for 60 bucks I had to jump on one... anyone have any pedals that sound like the hot tubes I could look up on youtube or experience with the Hot tubes big box ?

There are no real good demos of the big box hot tubes on youtube that I could find

A pedal. It will make sound. You may like it. You may not. Either way, we will read about it in this thread. If you really like it, or really don't, you may even make an audio clip. It may sound good. It may not.

That about sums it up, I think. :)

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

haha! I will for sure make a clip when I get it for youtube

I don't usually buy without making sure I know what it will sound like in my rig but for 60 bucks why not. I'm hoping it sounds thick and not shrill like the youtube demos of the old big box

Tube pedals are strange things. They "should" sound amazing, but I've never really had any luck with the few that I've owned through my tube amps. Hopefully, it's exactly what you're looking for.

Tube pedals are strange. I've played enough different ones to feel like they're all over the map. I used to have a pretty-expensive tube distortion that did some fake-sounding things rather unbecoming to the product category. I've had others that were really, really great. And some that were good but not really better than similarly-priced solid-state pedals.

Like others have said here: Dunno, man. Just dunno.

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

the Hot tubes pedal is CMOS not actual tube. they did make a hot tubes with actual tubes in it but it is way different I hear from the old big box hot tubes from the 70s

This question falls squarely into the category of "Questions to Ask BEFORE Buying."

I usually do but on Ebay there was only one left with the cheaper shipping and man... it was 60 bucks!!

No need to be a smarta$$, I'm just curious as to what other pedals sound similar to this one

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

CMOS overdrive circuits definitely have a different character. I didn't mind the one in my old Sunn Beta lead, but it will definitely be a bit different than the diode based distiortions you are used to. Heck, for 60 bucks, it's work a go.

Yeah that's what I figured. I actually like the sunn beta lead especially with a tele

I find Diode pedals muddier at least the ones I have used

WOW . . . never seen this one before . . . wonder how it will compare to the older "big-box" Hot Tubes.

PS : i have the older one, with the actual valves in 'em, and i love mine. (for what it's worth)

They are supposed to sound the same but I have no way of comparing once it gets here. Hopefully EHX posts some good demos soon. If it is a dud for me and does not fit in my rig I can just sell it on craigslist or kijiji

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

Or return it for a full refund.

My IC muff clone has a tone bypass switch and I love it. Gives the pedal a huge sound and a great boost in the mids as well as a 6db volume boost. I'm curious as to if the tone bypass switch on this unit will give a similar result.

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

I will post the sound results and possibly a demo once I get it.. guy has not shipped it yet though so might not be for at least a week but at least I got that to look forward to :)

Suppwit dat? They call it a Hot Tubes, and it ain't hardly got no tubes in it? Not even some lil' tiny ones?

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

the question 'what should I expect?'......... shouldn't be asked before purchase?

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

that's cool you can turn the tone off if you so desire. I also dig the original dates back to the late 70s - when stuff sounded good!

Re: Just ordered a Hot Tubes nano.. what should I expect?

Ok so I tried this pedal out I just got it in the mail. On it's own its decent but a bit farty and thin but stacked with my Hardwire SC-2 it is thick and full with the tone maxed and the gain maxed. The sound is very QOTSA/Kyuss ...very thick and sputtery in a good way and its the first pedal that has sounded thick and full when i'm downtuned a full step with the Whammy V. I will post a clip later of how it sounds with my hollow body downtuned , it really is a great sound for me.

I rehearse tonight so hopefully it sounds good through a cranked amp and cuts through well.
