Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

I've been sitting on this for a while and a bit unsure about posting it due to the fact that i had to do a lot of research on the transformers and wasn't sure when i would be able to update it.

However I have the OT completely sussed and have a custom unit on order with the addition of a 16ohm tap unlike the original.

So lets get this kicked off. Here is what i have already.

Resistors and diodes are on order. More stuff should be ordered towards the end of the month.

I'll update this thread as i progress.

Love these threads, buddy. I'll be looking forward to seeing and hearing the completed product! Do you have speakers you prefer with that head?

This is easily my most ambitious build to date. I decided that I may as well go all out on it.

So it will be simulclass, graphic EQ and spring reverb. I will probably also change the bias circuit so each valve can be biased individually.

I spent a lot of time looking over schematics to get my head around this its quite complex so heres hoping it gets done without any issues.

I have no preference yet as i've only very limited experience with a MKIII in person and none with an actual IIC+

Currently i'm really liking the eminence legend V128s. Should be picking up some V1216s shortly so i can rewire my cab so its 16ohm per side in stereo. Hopefully they'll work fine with this amp too.

Wow. $114 for a SLO chassis and PCB set? That's not bad at all... Now if only I didn't have a three-month old...

That ones a bit different to the regular SLO. Obviously it has seperate tonestacks but it also has the clean channel bleed removed. Which is quite a big part of the lead channels sound. It's easy enough to work around though.

Just a small update here. Its nothing exciting really I've just got all the resistors diodes and transistors populated. Now to wait on more parts.

Nice I dig it cant wait to see the finished product.

Awesome project, I'm excited to see how it turns out. I really like my MKIIB, haven't ever used a C+ though, but I've heard good things. Those amps are really complicated little beasts.

Do you do that in a bunny suit in a clean room? It's phenomenal work.

My 'workshop' is my kitchen worktop. Right next to the coffee machine which is a crucial piece of equipment for this kind of work!

They sure are. It took me a couple of months just going over the schematics to get my head around the thing. The simulclass poweramp was baffling as i'd never seen anything like it before.

The simulclass OT arrived!

Weighs an absolute tonne.

I love these build threads of yours. :headbang:

Re: Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

So how much do you think this build will cost you total?

Re: Just ordered some parts for a new amp build. MKIIC+ Content

its looking to be around £650ish from my initial parts list. But as i order the parts ill go over everything and change stuff around most likely and end up saving quite a bit. At first i just go for generic big name brands just to get a rough idea of the price and then im more selective when it actual comes to ordering.

Actually knock £75 off that estimate as i saved quite a lot on the OT by getting it custom made rather than getting a Mercury magnetics one. so say £575-600.

There are a few things that are annoyingly priced. Such as the inductors and slide pots. The chassis cut out is too small for the majority of them or too big so you have to go with the mesa ones at £13 a pop same with the inductors. These are the points where i'll save a good chunk of money once i start looking properly or modify the chassis & pcbs to fit readily available alpha/bourns parts.
