Just put in my Tony Iommi pickup. question..

I just installed the gibson tony iommi sig pickup in my sg. It seems that when i dont have my hands on the strings that i hear a little open hiss sound. It is very faint, but this being my first pickup to ever install i wonder if i did something wrong. Could this be a bad solder joint on the ground? Or should it be expected with a pickup with this amount of output. I want to stress that it is very faint but still can hear it.

sounds like a grounding issue to me. check from the jack to the strings to see where it isnt making good contact

Re: Just put in my Tony Iommi pickup. question..

I did not solder my green wire and white wires together, i just twisted them and taped them together. I soldered my black wire to the bridge volume pot. do i need to solder the green wire/white wires together?

Re: Just put in my Tony Iommi pickup. question..

Soldering the green and white together insures good current flow from one to the other. If that doesn't work, check all your wiring.

Also, standard Gibson 4 conductor wiring would have black and bare to ground, red to output. If it's out of phase with existing wires, then switch the red and black. However, this would not be the cause of any hissing.

Just soldered the white/green together and taped with electrical tape...Still buzzy when i dont touch the strings. I soldered my black/and bare to the volume pot of the bridge pickup. Is this where it is suppose to go? Is it possible my solder sucks? Also should exposed bare wire be taped up? Sorry for all the questions. just a newbee at this.
