Just saw Journey

Hey guys. I just got home from seeing Journey, here at Meadow Brooke, NH. Neil Sean is an amazing guitarist. My god. His playing really puts him up there with the big guys, Satch, Vai and Petrucci. He's amazing in his own way, just like the other great guitarists of today are. I'd just like to find out what he uses for a rig? Can anyone help me with this? I highly suggest seeing Journey. Many of theirs songs are exteneded live and they just totally blew me awy with their talent. Neil played the National Antheme and it was so beautiful. I enjoyed it more than the time I heard Satriani play it, and that takes a lot to say.

Opinions on Journey and Neil?

Neal Schon has always been one of my favorites and Journey as a whole ranks up there with the best of them in melodic rock music.

Who was singing for them? It wouldnt, though I highly doubt it, have been Steve Perry would it? My wife absolutely loves Journey, but she is of the opinion that Journey without Steve Perry is not Journey. Shed rather see Steve Perry in concert with a backup band of nobodies than see Journey minus Steve Perry.

If they come my direction and I could score some tickets, that would be huge.

Love Journey..... Feeling That Way rocks! Live their live album Captured... The sound on the remastered cd blows the old cd away.....

I agree, Neil is an amazing guitarist. He learned from one of the best playing with Santana for a while before Journey. I saw him in the mid-90's playing with Abraxis. They were all the original Santana members, minus Carlos and the percussionist (who has passed). Then, he was using two Twin Reverbs hooked up to 2 Marshall 4X12 cabs. His pedalboard was simple, like 3 pedals. I know one of them was the Blues Driver. I was right up at the stage so I could see it. Can't remember the others though. A memorable show to say the least. Tommy Castro opened up the show.

well I just answered my questions. I checked out the website and Steve Augeri is their singer. They are however coming about a 2.5 hours drive from me in less than a month, however its a very bad time for me to try and go.

Neal Schon rocks with the best of them....

I have an old Guitar One mag that shows his rig & it was friggin HUGE!!!!
I think I may have posted it in a thread a while back; I'll search for it.


Ball & Chain...that guy they have singing now sounds amazingly just like Steve Perry. Tell your wife to close her eyes & make believe! :13:

Last night they had two people singing. I believe it was the original singer and the key boardest. I'm just really coming into Journey so forgive me if I am wrong. But it sounded 100% like the original singer and I am pretty sure it was. I'm wicked stoked that Neil has a solo album.

I haven't read anywhere that Steve Perry is back with Journey....Also...Neal has been bit by the Satch bug if you listen to some recent offerings,in fact he's been on the "Favored Nations" label also...Neil is great and he doesn't need to copy anyone,but some of his recent stuff reminds me of Satch...I Love Satch's stuff also,so I'm ok with it... :laugh2:

I think Neil Schon may be one of the most over-looked under-rated players. In my book he is an all time top 20 player. Neil can rock. He can play bluesy rock with anyone...and has already been mentioned he can carry a melody. He has great phrasing, articulation, and feel in his style. Truly a great player.

I don't think Neil ever get's under-rated...It's more that he's been around for so long,but he just doesn't get the limelight that Clapton and other players that have been around for ions gets...In fact Neil turned down playing with Clapton during the Derek/Layla times...

Yea, Ive heard some small exerpts of some stuff with him singing and he is very very close. Very good singer, though dont matter to me , i'd be concentrating on mr. schon the whole time anyway.

Wow, I didn't know that.
I simply meant to say that Neil Schon is one of the best. All the players know about him, but the younger generation of players are not aware or know about Neil as world class player as is our generation. I was a total Neil Schon wanna be in the 80's. I wore out those old Journey vinyl LP's.

Steve Perry isn't the original singer for Journey....it was Gregg Rollie who also played keys and was an original member after leaving Santana w/Neal Schon to form Journey. He's the guy singing "Black Magic Woman".

The original stuff was less pop & more progressive rock kinda' stuff....

The new guy singing for them is Steve Augeri & he sounds pretty damn close to Steve Perry.

Well, I'm going to dive into Neal as deep as I can. The way he played last night just connected with me so much more than any other guitarist ever has. My playing style and approach was so similar to his. Of course no where near as talented, but I mean in terms of where/how I've been trying to progress with my playing.

I think I found my guitar hero.

Neal is one of those dudes who, on an album you notice is good, but doesn't jump out at you until you really listen for him. But then live he's kickin ass big time. I believe it's either how they mixed and mastered the Journey albums or possibly his guitar/amp set-up for studio work. Either way, his writing is killer, and you can tell he's one of those musicians who's always "kept it real."

I also find it amazing that Journey managed to get another singer that looked and sounded just like Steve Perry. How weird is that?!

I saw Journey a couple of months ago here in LA and I was sitting 10th row center and saw everything clear as day. He had 3 Diezels. I assume it was a wet/dry setup. There was a CyberTwin next to him, but I beleve that Steve Augeri was using it for a couple of songs on his Tele.
