Just scored a Custom Tele for cheap on Ebay

In the late 80's/early 90's, Schecter had a Custom Shop on Sunset Blvd. right across from Guitar Center. They later moved all their custom work to Japan.
If you've ever played one of these custom shop Schecters, you'd know that they played like butter and sounded amazing. Far better stuff than any import by Schecter. The new one's go for around $2100. Anyway, I've been watching this Sunset Custom Tele on Ebay for a week, and planned on proxy sniping it at the very end, to ensure I got it. I always wait till the last minute, throw out a bid, and if I'm not the winner, I have only seconds to raise my bid. If you notice the bids, I came in 4 seconds before it ended, and swiped it. I remember these sold for around $1400 in the early 90's, and this one is mint. If it's as killer as I think it is, I'm selling my G&L Asat Z-3, to fund it.

holy crap you bought that. I was actually looking at that one. I have the Korean produced version of that same guitar. Built to the same specs, but in Korea, and it has a basswood body, still natural/black too. Real nice guitar, I'm lovin it. If i had the dough I probably would have tried snipin that guitar out from under you too.

Re: Just scored a Custom Tele for cheap on Ebay

i honestly feel bad for the person you outbid. im sure he really wanted that guitar for playing reasons not reselling reasons....

yes, the old shecter custom shop guitars sound sweet though......mark knofler has a few....

Re: Just scored a Custom Tele for cheap on Ebay

I remember that shop.

nice acquisition.

I'd wait till I played it to decide whether or not to sell the Z3, though.

I definitely bought this guitar as a player, not a seller. I say that everytime I buy a guitar, then play it for awhile and see if the guitar is something I love. You never really know till you own it for awhile. I have a good feeling about this one though. I'm going to wait till I get this one before I part with the G&L, and possibly keep both. I've got some other gear for sale right now, so I'll pay for this Schecter with the sale of something I'm not using.
I don't feel bad about the guy who bid against me. I wanted it more.
Another good thing about this guitar is that it probably won't need a pickup upgrade. I played one like this years ago and remember that the pickups were great. That ash looks better than anything I've seen on Fenders lately.
The 12 inch radius neck means it'll be great for chicken shredding. :laugh2:

Swamp ass is the wood as we affectionally call it

Why do you not like swamp ash?

It's proven Schecters vintage stuff is superior. It's also shown through years upon years that swamp ash is an amazing body wood for a Tele. I don't want to sound rude, but basswood, while a very balanced wood, just doesn't compare IMHO. There's a punch and a sparkle that swamp ash offers that just makes it perfect for a guitar like that.

I remember the Schecter Custom Shop in LA; very very good stuff. IMO, you got a gem!

swamp ass? I didn't say I don't like it. It's a good guitar wood. It's just funny when someone brings a swamp ash guitar into the shop. Well look it's swamp ass! it's lame but good for a chuckle
