Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

i think black would look cool.

Nice score. Thats a great story too, I've spent more time then you did picking out guitar strings, then you did buying that guitar. Enjoy, I recently played an asat about two weeks ago. Wasn't quite my thing but played very nicely. Great score.

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

:soapbox:

J/K, what can I say but: You Bastid scored an ASAT for that price?!? :saeek:

Enjoy her, Jonesey. And remember that your future live-in Luthier still has no Tele ;) :laugh2:

Can´t wait to see those Barstools :friday:

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

as seen in jonesys gear page:

"As for the question "What would I add to this collection?" NOTHING! "

hmm.... :nono: :laugh2:

That´s kind of what I was (albeit VEEEERY subtly) getting at with the Luthier comment ;)

You GEARB!TCH !!! You had to mention the Tele thru that Matchless, didn't ya'???

That sparkle does nothing for me, but $615.00 for a G&L ASAT Z-3...I could learn to love that thing like a 2nd cousin at a redneck picnic ! :)

My thoughts exactly - couldn't have said it as well ;)

BTW a black pickguard might look better IMHO, but how about this one from PickguardFX to go completely over the top?

You and Curly are BOTH evil!

Ha Ha Ha. :laugh2: I've had a couple Tele's before but never bonded with them because one was an icepick ash Tele, and the other was a 2 hum Tele,
which isn't really a tele. Now, between your snide remarks about my lack of a Tele :blackeye: and Curly, who sends me 4 pics of a G&L Tele everyday....
Yes, I've been worn down to my lowest point! Just when I promised myself
I wouldn't spend anymore money on gear, I've broken down.
I spotted that Tele 4 days ago, but stopped watching it till I accidentally ran into it again....1 minute before closing. At $615, I didn't even have control over my "last second proxy finger." All I know is there's some pretty pissed off bidders on that list of 20 bids. :yell: That Z-3 through the Chieftain

Here's hoping it's the one for you. It's certainly a looker.

Is it alder? -I'm a big fan of alder/rosewood teles. They perhaps don't twang as much as ash teles, but they have a really nice balance of smoothness and twanginess. In my opinion, Ash/maple teles need a class A or tweed type circuit to work properly, whereas alder/rosewood teles sound good across pretty much any amp. If it weren't for various financial pressures, I'd be very seriously looking at grabbing a refinished, neck pickup added '66 esquire at my local store...

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

Yeah, this is the first guitar I've bought where Duncans won't even be a consideration.
Thought I'd never hear myself say that, but Leo finally designed a pickup that couldn't be ripped off by 20 pickup companies. They were a design that Leo wanted Fender to use, but they held back, to their own detriment.

Before deciding to buy the guitar, I had seen it a few times, but thought the ending price would be closer to $875. Got lucky. No reserve. I'll never understand why people sell stuff on Ebay with no reserve. It's too risky, as he just found out. LOL

. . . aren't to many Duncans going to fit in that one! Lew

I was wondering about that also. G&L's a pretty respectable guitar maker, but I can't help but wonder if there's a "sonic" reason for that configuration, or if its just marketing.

Anyway, nice score gearjoneser; its a beautiful axe.

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

They are actually humbuckers....take alook on your average P-bass.
Leo made some nifty sounding pickups......and those G&L pickups sounds very good and has their very own vibe.
By the way if the Pots are 250K switch to 500 to get more life to them.

Ah . . . so sorta like a DuckBucker, with offset plastic?

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

Yep like the P-bass pickup.
wide-aperture single-coils that are louder and fatter than Strat pickups. The Z pickups’ separated-coil configuration enhances the highs and lows, and because the two coils are wound in opposite directions, each pickup is humbucking. It’s a great recipe.
In the words of old Joe Gore.
hehe

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

Would you guys go with the white pickguard, solid black, or black moto pearl?
I still can't believe it's only $615! AND, I don't have to change the pickups.
G&L uses either their own highquality designs, or U.S. Duncans. I've played those Z pickups before. I like the fact that you can back them down to the output of a regular Tele, or turn them all the way up and push your amp harder like a humbucker. And yes, it's alder, not ash. I'll just have to wear sunglasses when I play it. LOL

I personally think a black pickguard, but thats just me...i rekon it would give it a less fancy more cool look...not that it doesnt already look cool as but thats what i would do.

Awesome score man, love it how you made a last minute (literally) decision! Take that women who think men are indecisive :P

I'm leaning toward a G&L 3 ply black pickguard, myself! For the exact reasons you pointed out.

As for the aquisition...I really was looking for a Z-3, but didn't decide on this one till 45 seconds before the auction ended. What I didn't tell you, which makes it even more crazy, is that I bought it on the very day I did my taxes, and was liquidating a good chunk of change to pay my end of year tax balloon payment.
On the day I commited to this guitar, I also wrote a check for $2700, which translates to "living by the seat of your pants!" It doesn't matter tho, because I sold about $2300 worth of gear last week. Talk about a crazy hobby! I do know that the Tele is going to be well used!

Re: Just Scored a Killer Tele on Ebay!

dont like the color, but that guitar for that price you could get it repainted, or sell it for a profit and buy a different one.!
