Just Scored a New Guitar! L@@KIE

Joneso, what finish is that? Tabacco Sunburst?

Nice score, one of the loveliest guitars I have ever seen.

Some day my G&L will come...in the meantime I'm just gonna be jealous of people like you.

I've often wondered how available G&L's are in other countries. They're a California company, but they're the only real heir to the Fender crown, due to Leo's ownership of both Fender and G&L. Do they get distributed much to Australia, Japan, England etc?

Classy!!! :smoker:

I like those G&L Invaders... if they had rounded heels they'd be the perfect guitar for me.

Chris, there's a Grosh on Ebay I was watching, in Tigerseye flame. THAT'S the one I really wanted, but I just can't do $2100. Plus, I'd constantly worry about dinging a Grosh or Suhr that cost a fortune. By the time I'm done tweaking the setup and possibly crowning the frets on this G&L, it's gonna be a keeper. I sure hope I love the neck. That's the hardest part of buying without ever playing that particular model.

I've played one of the Tiger Eye flamed ones at GGuitars and I was floored as well, but my purple one came around and I couldn't say no to it ;).

In my case, I've found that as long as the width of the neck is at a medium to long distance, I'm fine with whatever shape or size neck is on a guitar. My G&L Skyhawk has a pretty thin neck, but flying on that guitar is a breeze :)

You're right about dings on a guitar, it is a scary thought, but a guitar that nice deserves to be played bigtime. With the price being around a good Gibson or PRS, it really can't be beat.

Still, G&L's rock and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it :)

Most Duncans come in Gibson pole piece spacing, but Fenders and Floyd equipped guitars perform better with Trembucker spacing, so the two E's have the poles directly underneath them.

Re: Just Scored a New Guitar! L@@KIE

We get a few G&Ls coming through here, but only really 'count on one hand' type figures. Compared to the amount of Fenders and Gibsons that flow through it's a really small volume. They go for about NZ$3,200 for a new Legacy (fairly standard spec) which is equivalent to about US$2,300. So when I see the prices you guys are paying for these awesome used babies, yep, I get kinda wistful...

In New Zealand they don't really have the same brand image as Fenders, which is good and bad. I picked my 1991 Legacy up on the used market when I was looking for a Fender Strat. Got it for significantly less than I would have had to pay for a Fender of a similar quality. After I bought it I actually got the shop to do a set-up on it, and I think they only then realised the quality of the guitar they'd sold me at a reasonably low price.

To give a comparison of pricing, I saw a 1995 Fender Strat going for 25% more than a 1995 Legacy the other day - it's fairly normal.

I'm planning on buying a guitar or two next time I'm in the USA

I know the local importer, and he's offered to do me a deal if I ever want one. He has a decent but not massive stock available. Generally, the quality is high.

On a similar tack, I saw one of the tribute import models when I was on holiday, and I swear it was one of the nicest 'budget' guitars I'd ever seen. If you'd put it amongst a bunch of MIA G&Ls, I wouldn't have been able to pick it out as an import.

I've always wondered why G&L's don't have an excellent resale value. They're quality guitars, so it seems like they'd hold more value. Used G&L's and Hamers are two of the best 'bang for buck' deals out there.

Some guitars are just kie that. I wonder the same thing about MusicMan guitars. They are $1200-$1500 guitars that can be found used and in good condition for $500-$700 in the right places.
