^ Doubt it.You must do fairly high action. Those Epis bottom out REAL fast if you set them up for low action. I know for certain. Extensive fret leveling is a pre-requisite. Enjoy your your golden gate bridge action.
FWIW, I ahve an Epiphone Korean ZAkk Wylde Les PaUl. Love it WITH A HIGH GAINAMP( MY 5150 PEAVY), but out of the box it needed ext(P)ensive set up fret work .They all do in order to achieve reasonably low action.They don't do a lot of expensive fret work on those guitars at that price point.It was close to one thousand dollars..not close enuf I guess.

I have an Epi dot that has the lowest nicest action I've ever had on a guitar and its completely stock and untouched as far as fretwork. It absolutely can be done.

Don't have an Epi but I have a G&L tribute ASAT which is right in that price range. Got it used and it seemed like it was played much at all. And when I played it I realized why, the frets, great, smooth, level but the neck itself needed a large amount of truss rod rodding to get it right. Added a very slight shim and had a local guy cut a new nut, real bone, and it plays really well, stay in tune amazingly well. For 400+ cost I think you should expect frets to be good, I know though when I go to get a guitar with single coils it will be a G&L.

Depending on the retailer Tributes seem to arrive new without a hint of setup; not even roughly eyeballed. Though fretwork has been fine in my experience.

I have a 60's tribute plus, it was good. Adjust bridge to my liking and tweak the intonation. Frets were good.

I guess it's all a bit inconsistent with Epiphone and details. This thread is a huge bag of different impressions.

Both my Epiphones haven't seen a tech yet for a fret tweak, only because I don't like low action that much so I don't need it. But I'll have them crowned eventually, just to ensure sustain, clarity and consistency across the neck.

I'm not complaining though. Both my 339 and Les Paul are just badass guitars.
PRS SE guitars might come a bit better from the shop, but if I wanted a PRS I'd bought one. I wanted a Les Paul and a 339.

I got a handmade ESP that i bought for 420 (used) i think it was, and thats the most expensive guitar I own

So yeah when companies that employ sweatshop labor for like $1 or $1.50 per hour wages then try to charge 4 digits for something made out of trash lumber with sharp frets and tolerances out of whack, I'm like "kids just say no and go to pawnshop"


PS also telling is how other brands manage to get some pretty solid stuff out for $400...occasionally lol

Had repaired my fair share of Epicatastrophyphonis...frets that popped out, necks nice and warped, nuts made by a blind idiot.
Only a few where actually nice guitars for the price tag.
Almost all of them needed quite alot of hours to play...hours is money!
(Just like alot of the Crapsons we had around, faded crap and you name it, acoustic horrors made with the most worn out templates you could imagine...fretboards that looks like a project from 8th grade, decks that had odd riplings, bindings made by Jerrys drunk cousin, paintjobs that frankly needed a total sand down and begin again thank you, more nuts made by yet another blind idiot, neck angles out of this world, you name it!!.....plek and other fancy stuff would not save them from being firewood, but customers just looove them, it is a Gibson(only a Gibson is good enough) or their love for their Asian counterpart....gods haha)

Hello Diego,

I bought a Chineese Epiphone Casino and everything about it is perfect. Except the Nut, I replaced it with a Tusq XL nut right away. As a matter of fact, when I was at Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, IN, they let me play several Casino's and they were all just as good. The thing about the Chinese pickups, I've come across a bad humbucker or two, but the Casino has dog ear P-90's. Maybe single coils are harder to screw up.?
