Just tried one of those P90 Squier Teles...

One of the all black Teles with Custom style controls.
Damn those are fun little guitars!
Tried it at a store through a Blues Jr, these cheap Teles have tone!
Punchy twang with great mid presence and a firm, quick bass. It loves overdriven chords.
Great player too, 22 frets and good control with the four knobs.

They are an amazing deal and if any of you has one, I hate you. :D

What I find amazing is that those guitars are as much fun as they are, considering the cheap components that go into them. (Yes. I have one.)

Yeah. It's all very budget conscious, yet it works perfectly.
I could see myself with one of those and just leaving it alone, no pickup swaps or anything.

Great deal and I feel bad for any new guitar player buying a low-range RG or a LP100 instead of one of these.

Are you referring to the Black Dove ?

My brother has one . . .

P-90's are awesome. Fills a nice niche between humbuckers and regular singles. There's someone with, or used to have a fender signature thinline tele with p90 pickups. Can't remember who, or what band but the guitar was cool.

Still haven't decided about the STK-1s in my Hybrid II ? I have done some work on it and it is a decent guitar, comes with pretty awful pots and wiring from the factory. Otherwise it is about the cheapest Les Paul Jr DC you will find anywhere. Neck sanded and tung oiled , Babicz TOM bridge plugged (twice)and installed , Planet Waves tuners, Have a set of push/push to install for series/parallel wiring. Dunlop Strap locks

If I was to ever get a Tele (heaven forbid) I'd be tempted by one with P-90's.

That one exactly!
I just realized that I'd never truly tried a Tele before. I think I liked it better than my Strats.
The tone is less glassy and stronger. Which is what I like in my single coil sounds.

Damn.

Re: Just tried one of those P90 Squier Teles...

Blueman, I think you could be seriously surprised by a P90 Telecaster.
It is a bright instrument but it's easily tameable.

This P90 Tele sounds sooo good through an AC15 !

Re: Just tried one of those P90 Squier Teles...

I just realized it only needs black screws for the pickguard and dark red paint for the body.
Yum.

Re: Just tried one of those P90 Squier Teles...

I like those Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe instruments. I have an HSS Tele that I love.

Jim Adkins. The guitar was an interesting idea, poorly rendered.

IMO, the Stacks do not capture the true sound and dynamics of single coil P90s.

Agreed. I had one in the neck position of a Tele for a while, and it sounded more like a humbucker than a true P-90.

I bet they do sound good. But as long as I have an LP or SG to put P-90's in, that's all I need.
