I was browsing the gibson site and look what i found!

http://www.gibson.com/whatsnew/pressrelease/2004/jun11a.html

they are making a signature custom les paul for justin hawkins of the darkness! Ive seen that guitar before but now its gonna be released to the public! Im sure i wont be able to afford it but dang im sure it will be a sweet axe. He used that axe at the mtv brit awards or something its got a flame inlay running up te enck and the guitar is some cool looking silver burst finish.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

That Seashell Paul looks real pretty too. You can see some contouring on the back in the smaller photos is you look hard.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

When I saw them in concert, I like the seashell-based one better. It looked cooler. I might have gone for the LP Custom, had he played the pink one, but he only had the silver one that night.

isn't it sexy?!

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

What has this guy done to get a sig axe? I mean, Slash doesn't have a Slash Signature Les Paul, and if there ever was someone who Gibson could use as a LP spokesperson, it's him. I mean, sometimes, it just annoys me when folks get a signature amp. Kinda like, not only does Tom Delonge of Blink 182 have a custom Strat, but a Gibson signature too? What gives?

Didn't slash just get a Signature Lp?

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

haha yeah slash has a sig lp. didnt he used to have a different sig lp too? the red one with the snake on it or something?

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

Yep, you're right ex.

He originally had a flamed red top les paul with a serpeant on it. His new sig. guitar is tobacco sunburst with black uncovered SD Alnico II Pros and a piezo pickup system.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

slash had 2 signature gisbons LP's and a epiphone sig lp too. I thinkthe justin lp looks sweet! And i think JH is a very good gitarist anyways he does deserve it, slash is good too. I think both are well deserving, as for tom delonge sure i thinkhe deserves it, he has contributed to sending punk into the main stream anyways.

Hey as long as the instrument in question is GOOD I don;t really care whose signature axe it is. And as for whether or not an artist is "deserving" of an instrument... I think debating that is kinda pointless.

Besides, I'm sure that if you were a breaking artists that put out a successful debut album and then got an instrument deal I'm sure YOU wouldn't complain. AND I'm sure that you would feel you deserved it for even making it that far.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

Clever marketing ploy by Gibson to make you buy something which will cost more than the regular LP - well if that's what people want.....

I suspect they are also trying to recoup, some of the their legal expenses with the lawsuits against PRS and Tokai :32:

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

Forget the guitar I wanna know where I can buy those Zebra pants!

good point B2D... but don't you think ADAM JONES not getting a sig and JUSTIN HAWKINS getting one is totally unfair? Tool has been out for over 10 years now.. and the Darkness, less than one in the public eye.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

That guitar makes me sick! It's vandalism to the regular LP shape.

Adam Jones is a bad example since he's not the type to do endorsements like that, especially a band that laughed off their first record deal.

Gibson and JH can do what they want, however I do think it is foolish to over look many other more established and contributing guitar players. I got a feeling this guitar is gonna be like one of those obscure guitars Gibson made in the 80s. I personally don't see much lasting power in The Darkness. Their main claim to fame at the moment is 80s pride, not necessarily amazing songs.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

actually they do have good songs, and they can solo their asses off too. Their tunes are very well crafted, and they are comming out with anoher album in the year of 2005 i believe. Another thing is alot of artists dont like to endorse at all, while otehrs will jump on it any chance they get. Someone like Justin Hawkins, its no surprise to me he took the ndorsement, and who woulnd't? IM sur eeveryone here would love to have a signature guitar of thier own.

Re: Justin Hawkins Les Paul!

I'll admit they can rip and are talented, but I don't see them really doing anything new and fresh to music. I'll admit I haven't given them a real solid listen, BUT my point is that they are being marketed as joke to some extent. You hear mostly "Haha, its that bring-back-the-80s band on the radio again, not o man its that amazing band with great song writing."

I remember reading in Guitar World, i think it was Juston who said they did it to end the Good Charlotte's. While I won't deny that is a good thing, I don't see writing solid rock music as being their main objective.

But hey, I could be wrong and its a terrible tradgedy. ;)
