JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

ANyone read up on this yet?

It’s based on Marshall’s flagship JVM series of amplifiers but it replaces the four reverb controls with four noise gates (one for each channel) – after all, Joe has plenty of cool effects such as his Vox Time Machine Delay when he wants some ambience – and they’ve changed the voicing of the channels to Joe’s personal preferences. There’s also a new Mid-Shift control to switch between a more typical JVM sound and Joe’s voicings. The amp is available in standard black, but a limited special edition (only 500 worldwide) blue half stack will be available for a short time.

Noisegate is actually a good idea for that amp...but at the expense of reverb?

I'd still rather have a Vintage Modern.

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

Four channels? That seems odd, I would expect to be able to cover Satch's gain range with 1 channel and a couple of pedals, or 2 channels and a pedal (or just 3 channels :p ). He pretty much does clean, mildly dirty, and nuclear.

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

4 separate channels is a little overkill.

I don't really see what was wrong with the JSX. That thing sounded awesome. He had his own identity with Peavey, now he's like every other guitarist building off the JVM. Maybe that's what he's going for after joining Chickenfoot. Who knows?

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

I'd be surprised if he really uses all 4. Even on the JSX, I never saw him use all three.

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

When he came out with the Vox Satchurator pedal, I remember him saying he just uses the clean channel on the JSX and uses the pedal for distortion.

Don't see the point of a new endorsement other than $$$ or GAS.

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

Yes my Jolly friend but I like to use mine. :D

I'm wondering how much of the gain Satch uses. Yeah the amp can get noisy but man you really gotta be slathering on the gain before is becomes really bad. The most gain I use is CH3 orange at just under 10 o'clock.

Have you stopped using the Peavey JSX amps completely?

I haven’t used the JSX amps since the Chickenfoot tour started over a year ago. We did that first club tour through the U.S. back in May of last year. When I got back, I met Sammy at his studio. We both plugged into some Marshalls that we had and we thought, “We gotta go back to playing Marshalls!” We knew what Chickenfoot really needed. He was playing is own Crate model before that. Just like that, the two of us switched to Marshall. The next week we flew to Vienna and Marshall had a bunch of amps waiting for us. Then I started trying to figure out how to use the JVMs, and I’ve had a lot of fun with those amps. They’ve been really amazing sounding on the Chickenfoot tour, and they wound up having a great presence on my new solo record.

They’re so articulate, which is so unusual when you’re looking for an amp that can handle lots of levels of gain. The engineer Santiago Alvarez at Marshall figured out a way to get them to be big and ballsy. They have a way of being very articulate, which really helps me out when I’m trying to concentrate on phrasing. I want people to hear every little nuance of my picking.

Wait a couple of years for the Bogner JS head. Mr B also seems to be putting out product to enhance his retirement plan.

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

That kind of defines everything I would not like in an amp, I have a knob limit....

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

A noise gate is a great idea. I'd think 2 channels, 3 max, would be enough though. Keep the reverb, and the noise gate.

Does anyone else make an amp with a noise gate built in? I can't think of one offhand. Modelers don't count for this question. -Rod-

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

Yeah, the Peavey JSX has a very effective adjustable noise reduction circuit built in.

The Egnater Armageddon is the only one that I know of. Having said that, the built in noisegate idea is a fairly new thing...

It's all $$$ folks.

Maybe he just really enjoys hobnobbing with artist relations people. Imagine if he switched to Duncan, then he could hang out with Evan and maybe we could get him here for a special guest appearance.

Re: JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Signature Head

Again...what was wrong with the JSX?

Nothing.

What's usually wrong with a successful, well-regarded signature model? Not a whole lot, except that it has the misfortune of not being the next signature model.
