Keeley vs Analog Man

Re: Keeley vs Analog Man

I have only really one experience with analog man...

Guy brought in his TS-9 one day to a jam session. Another guy brought his TS-9 silver modded by analog man...

Plugged em both in, set em to the same setting, and clicked each one on individually. There were 4 guitarists in the room...two professional guitar teachers, and two students (myself included). None of us could tell a difference between the modded and un-modded pedal.

Not to say that analog man's mods are hocus pocus...though that test was done in a sound-treated room through a very loud amp. Let your ears be the judge.

Re: Keeley vs Analog Man

I've heard that the mods on boss pedals are supposed to do quite a bit, especially on the ds-1

Re: Keeley vs Analog Man

mmm...

I've owned quite a few Robert Keeley modded pedals. The mods have varied in sound quality/tonal improvement...

I'd say that his strongest mods that I've tried have been the DS-1 Ultra and the BD-2.

The SD-1 mod was good, but not really anything special IMO. I've also got a CE-2 laying around that was modded by him. The speedy mod is cool, but the chorus mod is very subtle.

I've only tried a few analog man mods...though I can't say that I know much about em.

Neither Try Indyguitarist (www.indyguitarist.com) read reviews on harmony central and listen to audio on the indyguitarist website and compare the unmodded ones to different mods and u can really hear the difference!

Re: Keeley vs Analog Man

I think it depends on what you want from a pedal. I think even Kelley admits he was inspired by Analogman. They both do quality work as I understand it, but its like pickups, some prefer brand X others prefer brand y.

Re: Keeley vs Analog Man

I have a Keeley TS-9 with the 808 mod.

Compared to a stock TS it's a little "sweeter" sounding to my ears, it gives me more of what tonal qualities I'm really looking for in a Tube Screamer.

The Spina mods on my TS9DX made it a lot more versatile. It's still very true to the original TS sound, and probably more accurate than the pedal stock, but it's not as much as the Keeley.

For a night of ripping of SRV licks I'll grab the Keeley. For a three-set night of tunes with some range I'd likely grab the Spina TS9DX and my Wasabi. If those pedals can't get me where I'm going then the odds are nothing will!
