Re: Kerry King 10-band.....

this armband rocks and it's about 15 years old so you see it's timeless and good quality gear :)

Didn't he have an EMG Afterburner in his guitars as well?

thats what i was talking about, when he turns on the afterburner, he uses the Q-zone too

Re: Kerry King 10-band.....

I think he uses an EMG-PA2 (same idea as the Afterburner, but on a toggle switch).

I think thats right. And if its not it might be for an emg 89 which he might use in the neck.(im pretty sure its a 85 in the neck though)

:offtopic: but who cares. I found a pic of kerry playing the bagpipes. :laugh2:

Kerry used 6550's in his JCM-800's last time i checked. But yes, they would have to be modded for that too.

Nope some JCM800's in the mid 80's were shipped with 6550's due to poor supplies of EL34's.

I've never heard of him using 6L6's

Re: Kerry King 10-band.....

I read in an interview he said that he turned on the booster (the EMG thing) for solos, but left it on for the whole show whenever his tone wasn't up to snuff.

It says in a book I have that for a brief time when the JCM800s came out that all the Marshalls that were exported to the US were fitted with 6550's stock, because Marshall thought a more "American" sound similar to 6L6's would appeal more to the US market. I had a 4104 combo that came stock this way and I had to have it rebiased to EL34's.

The amp techs in the early 80's must've made LOADS of cash... :laugh2:

All Stevie really did say what he wanted from the pickups of his Strat (before he died) was that he wanted vintage-style Strat pickups with a little more crunch without losing that bell-like quality.

I'm no carpenter but I believe "ten-penny" refers to the type of nail and not the actual quantity.
