Kerry King EQ, worth it?

I'm guessing it's a bit more expensive than the regular MXR 10-band because of the name, paint job and additional "out"...but is it worth it?

the (pre) volume and (post) gain is very attractive to me right now. seems like i can get more gain apart from the 12db boost/cut from the pedal. but is it worth it?

also, the fact that is 18v though is a minus for me, since i want to just use my rocktron 9v power supply for all my pedals.

or should i get the MXR 6-band which has an 18db boost/cut? though i don't know if that would mean more gain, like the "volume" and "gain" sliders on the 10-band version.

or, get me a GE-7? or stick with my DOD 7-band EQ?

I wasn't that satisfied with my GE7. Hard to describe why, cuz it worked just fine, but it left alot to be desired as far as tone was concerned. My GE7 also made alot of noise, not sure if thats common to all GE7's tho. I tried the MXR 10 and its been great. It has alot more options to achieve that tone you're looking for. The gain is very useful for adding more "push".

I haven't tried the KK model tho, I'm convinced the KK has the same guts as the MXR 10, but more expensive paint job. I could be wrong about that tho.

The MXR 10 has no battery option tho, and must run off a 18v power supply. That might make or break the deal for you...

the kerry king ships with an adapter though. but it would have been nice if i didn't use any more power supply. but if it's really worth the trouble, i might go for it. what do you think?

Yeah, the MXR 10 comes with it own power supply too. I think either one you choose, I doubt you will be dissapointed.

If the extra wall wart isn't a concern, I'd definetely choose the MXR over the Boss. The MXR has more options, better construction, and less noise.

Look up the "Sniper Mod" to reduce noise with the GE7. If you don't need to drive two amps or chains, I'd go with the standard over the KFK model.

I had the KFK when I was in a black metal band a few years ago and it was ok. It started malfunctioning after a few months so I filled the insufficient solder on the pcb and sold it.

I never really like to use stuff that messes with the general tone from my gear a lot. The band members talked me into it because they thought I needed a more scooped, fuzzy treble tone from my 6505+. I did not like how it changed my tone, my amp sounded great before and it just seemed to get in the way. In front it doesn't sound like it's doing much, but in the fx loop it is much more noticeable. And it works better with bass or keyboards in my opinion. If you need more highs, bass, mids, whatever it will do it, but not in a very organic, natural way. It is cool if you want to plug into two amps at the same time, but a splitter can do that too.

I now use a DOD YJM308 for a solo boost and it is amazing for use with hi-gain amps like mine. Very clear with a glassy feel to it (think Necrophagist solos), I turn the gain almost all the way down and the vol all the way up for most clarity while boosting.

well, i'm not sure about the mxr, but i've been very happy with my ge7. it can work wonders for accenting leads and solos and it is virtually noiseless as long as you use it properly. the only thing that i don't like about it is that it is too sensitive, but i got used to it.

I can't confirm about the KK, but yes the MXR 10-band should come with a 18v power supply. There's no battery option for the MXR 10 so it has to run on a power supply at all times.

hhhmmm... so i guess it's whether or not i would "like" another "wallwart"?

any feedback on the MXR 6-band? is it better than the GE-7?
