Keyboard amp

Well, our keyboard player was a home recording freak and his keyboards have no amp so he just plugs into our amps. It doesn't sound too good...
We need a good, cheap amp that would work well for keyboards.. we'll use it in rehearsals- we can plug him into a mixing board when we preform.
I know many keyboard players use bass amps...

Do you have any ideas?

keyboards need a Full Range speaker and amp to reproduce the sounds of the keyboard clearly... so besides a keyboard amp the only other thing that may work is directly hooking up to a PA or powered monitor of some sort...

That being said we had a keyboard player in my last band.... he doubled on guitar duties as well... he used his Keyboard amp for 3 things.... one for the Key's, 2 for the POD he used for guitar, and another for his acoustic... and all these sounds went to the PA thru a single XLR output on the back of teh keyboard amp

We did some Deep Purple tunes and this guy also used to use a Marshall patch in the POD 2.0 for adding distortion to his keyboards organ sounds

The POD thru a Keyboard amp worked extremely well! Basicly i think of a POD or guitar modeler in the same vein as a Keyboards sound bank....

PS-a keyboard amp is on my list of things to buy because of the many uses it has... using electric guitar modelers and Acoustic guitar preamps thru it is the main reason but i also want a keyboard set up one day

whofan for the win

i use a full range amp for my synth output and piezo (faux acoustic) output ... 12" + a horn ... i'v eused it with a modeler output too - nice results

a guy i work with plays Bass and he prefers playing his Bass for jazz and classical music thru a Keyboard amp.... i guess you could use a Bass POD thru it but he prefers just the sound as is....

just another reason why i want a Keyboard amp.... Bass, Acoustic, Electric guitar Modelers, and they do great for Keyboards as well... i've heard some vocals thru a keyboard amp as well in small settings...

Yeah, when I play my bass guitar, acoustic guitar, or use synth or octave effects, I employ my bass amp. Most bass amps and keyboard amps have approximately the same frequency range, so they can essentially be used interchangeably. Having a low-range speaker mixed with a tweeter gives bass and keyboard amps a lot more sound production range than regular guitar amps in both the bass and treble registers. I recently converted a small guitar practice amp to a portable bass amp by replacing the speaker with a powerful, fairly wide-ranged pro audio speaker.

Search the used market for one of the old Roland Cube 60 keyboard amps from the 1980's. They have a 12" driver, a tweeter, two inputs, and silver tolex. They're excellent amps in every respect, and they can be had for $200 - 300. Roland sold tons of them and they're built to last, so there are probably quite a few still kicking around.

Peavey's K/B amps are good and relatively inexpensive (at least here). I don't know the availability over there, though.

For practice, a bass amp is better than a guitar amp. But a K/B amp would give you better highs.
