IRRC Ampeg used to test their cabs by throwing them off a roof or something similar.

Are roadies really that hard on equipment?

Kinda made me wonder why they even bothered to print the word 'fragile' on the box.

Seriously though, that amp sounds pretty cool. Made in Europe, you say? To the Google-mobile!

Good advertisement for shipping! I just got a speaker cab via UPS that had the dreaded "hole in the box" and sure enough the cabinet has a ding on it. Too bad these guys didn't pack it!

at 1:10 the camera pans away and they did the switcheroo

Re: Kicking The S**T Out Of A Tube Amp

1) I believe this says good things about their shipping box and their shipping foam

2) I do not necessarily believe it says much about the build quality of their amplifiers

3) I do not believe they made a switcheroo

It's packed well, not a huge surprise. I would be much more impressed if it was a full size head that weighs 60lbs or so than a small, light lunchbox head, it's easy to pack light stuff so it will survive big drops.

It does sound good though!

It was Pete Traynor that used to throw Traynor heads out of their two or three story building. Maybe Ampeg did it too...

I thought of this too. Was waiting for a camera pan, but it didn't seem like a switcheroo, didn't hear any box shuffling noises.

Pretty amazing switching skills they have there......

Look at the cables behind that. No way is a person able to take the old box, without making any sound, then replace it with a new one at the exact same angle in that little time. You also have to take into account the position of the man's left hand.

To me this looks legit.

I've dropped my Harry Joyce off a stage, fell 8 feet with no packing box and it worked fine. There is no reason that a well engineered amp in a properly padded box shouldnt be able to take that abuse.

I got my XTC back in December and it had a long hole in the box, and peanuts were leaking out. It came from UPS and I was very afraid. But luckily, it was triple wrapped in bubble wrap and was fine.

A month later I got my Uberkab via FedEx Ground (how I always ship myself) and the corners were beat-up. Sure enough, one of the corners was smushed down. I didn't bother making a claim and just try to ignore the fact that the corner is slightly smushed. Only noticeable if you look for it. But I learned that they all throw crap around during shipping and it's really a crap shoot if not packed VERY well. I tend to pack the hell out of amps and cabs that I ship out.

Yup.
