kill-pot wiring

I have purchased three Shadow kill-pots for my guitars, to replace the volume controls, but when I tried to replace the first one with the provided instructions ( http://www.shadow-electronics.com/d...df?PHPSESSID=9c634242eb09ce5277ae0967a0743e0c ) I had some sound issues: The Kill-pot works, but the 3 way switch doesn't anymore, and the kill-pot 'pops' when I push it (I think this is a ground issue). Could someone tell me how I should wire it correctly? here are the schematics of the guitar ( http://www.cortguitars.com/downloads/pdfs/KX-Custom.pdf ), and the current wiring numbered ( http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd79/robinsmeets/wiring_PRS.jpg ), so could someone tell me which wire should be soldered where, and where I should solder the capacitor? The guitar is a PRS SE Singlecut with Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz pickups. Your help will be greatly appreciated,

With kind regards,

Robin Smeets

Re: kill-pot wiring

The two terminals on the Kill Pot should go across your terminals number 4 and 5. The idea is, when you push switch, it shorts the output jack's "hot" lead to ground. I usually put short, straight pieces of solid wire through the eyelets from the top (switch) deck to the bottom (pot) contacts. Clipped-off cap or resistor leads work well.

Don't let the Shadow diagrams confuse you. Fig. 1 shows the Kill Pot being wired on a tone control. Fig 2 shows it as a volume control.

Your guitar appears to have a treble-bleed cap (across 2 & 4). DO NOT confuse the treble-bleed cap on the volume control with the TONE cap, which Shadow shows as (c) on Fig. 1. If the Shadow diagrams had a treble bleed cap, it would be across (a) and (e) on Fig 2.

Kill Pots are great - I can now do the machine-gun stutter on both my Telecasters. Mandatory for James Honeyman-Scott's solo in "Tatooed Love Boys".

Re: kill-pot wiring

Nope, not correct. You've got an extra wire in there. What Rich was saying is that one terminal of the Kill Pot should be wired to the hot lead and the other should be grounded. Exactly like your output jack. There are really only two connections to worry about. For the other three lugs on the pot, just duplicate what was there before.

If your diagram of the original wiring is correct, than your Kill Pot connections should be here (in red):

Re: kill-pot wiring

If this is still confusing, or my diagram doesn't work (for whatever reason), I would just run an extra wire from each lug of your output jack to each lug on the Kill Pot. That way you take the pot portion of the Kill Pot out of the equation. It won't look as nice though.

Re: kill-pot wiring

excuse me I hate to butt in
but if the instructions says it takes the place of the original pot
what are ya'll having to re-wire it for

should wire in just like the original pot

if it doesnt work as a volume pot
then somethings out of place

maybe I just missed something in the post

Re: kill-pot wiring

^ That's true for the three standard pot lugs, but the Kill Pot has two extra lugs for the "kill" function.

Re: kill-pot wiring

It still does the 'popping' sound when I push it when the volume fades... I followed your pic with the exception that all grounds except output are wired together because it has no bottom to solder it to. Anyone who knows how to solve this problem?
