personally I find it very difficult to buy a slide on line. If it doesn't fit properly it will wind up in my drawer and never get used. Plus the length is pretty important. Yeah I can measure my existing slide but I'd rather just hunt one down in the stores.....

almost always std tuning. I typically will use the same guitar all night unless I break a string (I have a really heavy pick attack at times and sometimes pick right next to the bridge saddle to get a certain sound which has a tendency to snap the low strings once in a while) but there are times where an open tuning is almost necessary to get things to sound right for a certain song. such as "when the levee breaks" you can play it in std tuning and its ok, but if you play it in the right tuning then its sooo much better

The ring finger is easier to control. I use the pinky, based on one of Arlen Roth's tab books that I bought back when I began to learn bottleneck, but I still fight the urge to switch to the ring.
And not for nothing, but 40 bucks for a slide is a lot of jack!
