Killer plexi shootout...

I just stumbled on this from the 2010 LA Amp Fest.

Most of these amps sound great... though a few are a little saturated and less articulate then others. My favorite is probably the Friedman Dirty Shirley. It's just so dayum rich sounding. Original Marshall plexi is right up there, being quit full. Hard to believe that in reality, we've improved on that tone very little (if any) in over 40 years!!! The Ceriatone is right up underneath those amps to my [admittedly-biased] ears, tho a hair less rich and full. The PWEs are also awesome and rich... though a bit too saturated IMO to be in this shootout.

Anyways... I shouldn't have given away my impressions and tainted the jury pool, but I'm curious to see what you guys have to say regarding the classic tones in these amps...

I always like watching those comparisons. One thing you learn quickly is tone can't be measured by money spent. There's super expensive amps that don't sound as good as a Blues Jr. and all sorts of surprises.

one of those at the end sounded like garbage - probably the most expensive one, haha

A couple of 'em sounded like a run of the mill tube amp with a cheap fuzz pedal in front. Several were good, though. And that guy has several good vids on his YouTube page. I really got into the one where they ran two amps at the same time in a mix and switched the amps up.

Thanks for the link.:bigthumb:
