I like that click! I always thought that song was meant to sound super-tight, like a machine, and that bass sound gives it that really mechanical feel.

The remaster isn't any better, they turn the bass way down and you can't even tell he's muting. As far as I can tell they added more compression to the drums and made the vocals louder (probably to give it more of a commercial feel... bleh).
