KISS 2000 Man for the forum's Ace Frehley tribute CD

Just finished mixing this today. Some timing issues and goof ups but I'm happy with it. Tried to punk the vocals up a little to cover up my Barry Manilow type voice, lol. I used the Fxpansion drums, SX Bass through my Bass Pod, guitars are Strat and Les Paul (Antiquities) through a Univox U45B, same Paul through a Vox AD60VTX (US High Gain model), solos done with same Vox patch with the Les Paul. Chords are miced and the solos went direct. Just wanted to try direct with the Vox and it sounds pretty good to me. I recorded the main and harmony vocals twice to get a natural "doubled" sound. Very little as far as effects. I put chorus and reverb on the strat and a touch of reverb on one of the vocal tracks plus the delay on the solos. The flanger is obvious on the one open note and I made it sound a little more digital on purpose.

Well, that's about it. Hope you enjoy it.

THAT'S what I'm talkin bout, LOL.

I'd like some feedback on the mix. I know I had some timing errors in the performance and whatnot, but I feel like out of all the stuff I did, this was my best mixing job. The important step I think I made was getting the bass and the bass drum into different frequencies so they don't cancel each other out or muddy it up. I picked a bass drum with a higher pitch and let the bass take the lows. How did I do? Critisizm more than welcome. Also, critisizm on how to spell the word critisizm welcome as well. :bigok:

I really enjoyed that!!! That was the best song on Dynasty! Very nice job, vocals are very cool. Going direct on the leads worked here-sounds very good. I had a hard time hearing the bass guitar, I'm listening on computer speakers, so maybe thats it. I usually try to get a deep, twangy bass tone to set the bass apart from the kicks. Other than the timing thing you spoke of, no other criticism (is that right?) from me bro. Nice job!! That song is a cool song to play, ain't it?

Ding ding! I think you spelled it right, lol. That song was a blast not only to play, but to sing too. I never tried a twangy bass, that's something I'll try out. The patch I use is a punchy, grinding sounding patch on the bass pod. Funny thing is that on the sound system I use to mix and in the headphones, the bass sounds great. Then I take a CD to the car and there's not enough bass. These are supposed to be very neutral phones too. Thanks a million for the compliments, they are appreciated very much.
