Knobs that don't sit correctly on the pot shaft

I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Standard that has a volume pot in which the knob looks slanted. It doesn't sit squarely on the pot shaft. My tech told me this is a common issue with split-shaft pots. The other three look fine though. He is currently working on it.

My question is what causes this?

And what is the fix?

I have already tried putting a new knob on and the issue remains.

He didn't talk about why some knobs sit crooked on the shaft.

If the adjustment-screw has to be in too far for tightness it will sit/turn crooked.

There are different sized shafts and different sized holes. Get ones that match.

There is no adjustment screws on Les Paul knobs.

These are not metal dome knobs.

And sometimes the shaft splines don't match up with the cuts in the knob base.

Or, you could just play a limited version of Whak-A-Mole!

Well the pot itself can not sit perfectly perpendicular to the top, so you can use washers to fiddle with that. Or one side of the split shaft can get bent more than the other and cause the crook. I'll prep the shaft on a lot of my pots by sticking some business card that I cut and fold in between the split shaft to make the knob sit on better. Just lil tricks and fiddling can fix it.

There is no adjustment screws on Les Paul knobs.

Woops that was me talking adjustment screws,,,sorry,,,I was off-base and need to pay closer attention to previous posts.
Adjustment-screw knobs are all I've ever used.

Epiphones use metric hardware.

Spin the knob, identify the low spot, apply pressure opposite the low spot, recheck, repeat as needed.

I am thinking its a classic case of the splines not matching with the knob. Some pots have course splines, some have fine ones. It is difficult to get one to work with the other...they might go on (if the knob plastic is soft), but they would be all wobbly, which drives me crazy.
