Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

I would like to know this too, especially a gold one.

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

IIRC, Schaller and Stetsbar have tremolo unit for guitar with wraparound bridge.

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

That works for a TOM/tailpiece.....not sure it will work for a wraptail

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

Floyd Rose now makes a drop in replacement, no routing or alterations needed, except I think 2 screw holes for the nut.

There's stetsbar which some like, and Schaller, and bigsby.

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

Bigsby B5 with BadAss style bridge. Up at the other end, you'll probably want a roller nut and locking tuners. It will work, but only for mild vibrato. The other issue you will have is the rubbery feel of a Bigsby. In 20+ years as a luthier,I removed a hell of a lot more than I fitted.
No dive bombs with that setup!
I think there will be a bit of routing involved with a Stetsbar. Kahler did a stud mount system that involved a bit of routing too. It would probably not clear the pickup either.
And lets not forget the Washburn Wonderbar......
On second thoughts, lets try real hard to forget it!!
You could fill the wraparound stud holes and redrill for a tuneomatic. Then use a bridge with roller saddles and your choice of trem.

Or,as someone said before....Whammy Pedal.

Cheers,PJ

I saw this on Vintage Kramer. I suspect it's a dinosaur by now ...lol:

It's called the Floyd Rose FRX now, redesigned though.

To me, Stetsbars look like some sort of head on a lawn mower. Not too awesome or classy looking in my opinion only. To each their own.

I'd like to replace one with a gold one, a nice simple one. Any sources?

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

I know of this Schaller one: http://guitar-parts.biz/hp135042/Tremolo-Les-Paul-right.htm?ITServ=CY7cb56db4X1533c4c52e3X5116

There might be more, but I don't know of them offhand.

I haven't installed it on one of my wraparound guitars, but looking at the design, it's very similar – if not identical – to the one that came on my Mercury guitar many years ago. FWIW, it stayed in tune like total dog ****, and didn't provide a very interesting or controllable vibrato. I think that floating design with no routing required can only be made so stable.

AFIK the Schaller one is the only one for wrap around bridges

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

now this is encouraging.

This idea is for a project that will probably take a while to complete. When it is done I will have a lighter les paul with a tremolo, if I order this one. The thing is that it really must be a wrap around because the guitar has no tailpiece.

Re: Know of any replacement vibrato bridge for gibson wraparound?

You can see with that one that it is the only one suggested that even gets close to being for a wrap. It has both string anchorage plus the saddle/fulcrum part needed to make the scale length.

Has a very much bigsby type wobble, but seems to be much more travel.

If it's a project guitar then the LP Floyd might be worth looking into. The two holes required for the bridge would be easy enough to drill and you would have much better tuning stability.
