Keep yer Squier as a knockaround and get any Strat that feels good in your hands...because it's not like you can have too many guitar parts lying around.

Think about it, after all the mods you're talking about, you'd have two whole Strats worth of parts ANYWAY, except for pickups and pickguards. You're basically wanting to buy half of your new Strat (the neck) now, and the other half (the body) later...whereas if it was me, I'd want that thing all at once

a lot of people have been saying mim, mij, why not mia? also, what are your thoughts on musicians friend? where could i buy a mim, mij strat other than e-bay? (i dont trust e-bay)

I have a MIJ 62 RI that I bought for $400 and it blew away every other strat I played at the time, including MIA's MIM's and some Anniversary models they had at the store when I purchased it. That was with the stock pickups.
