Just inlaid this into a Cooktown Ironwood fretboard.
Kookaburra, iconic Aussie bird..

I think it turned out fairly OK..

"I think it turned out fairly OK" he says. Then proceeds to post a picture of a PERFECTLY inlaid fretboard. :D I love the humble attitude though. Please be proud of your work, because its ****ing excellent!

Re: Kooka

Great detail.

When I hear Kookaburra, I think of The Wiggles. Sorry, our oldest daughter loved the show. There was an episode where they talked and sang about animals and well, the Kookaburra was one of them.

Re: Kooka

Thanks for the kind words fellas,
yes.... the Wiggles.. they certainly hit on a winning formula..
my kids were a bit old for them, but my nieces/nephews loved them!!

started out as a poor punk oriented band called the Cockroaches, and went on to make squillions selling kiddy punk..

Re: Kooka

To be honest it looks a little rough and I can see why you said it turned out OK. However, to help out I am willing to send you a couple of guitars free of charge so you can practise and hone your skills. You just have to send them back once you done them to this “OK” standard... deal?

Re: Kooka

Oh man! I wish I lived down under. I'd love to come visit you and pick up some pointers. I have a step-brother that lives in Australia and a step-daughter that lives in New Zealand. I'm sure one of these days I'll be down to visit them. Maybe we could get together.

I make pretty good custom guitars...THEY are actually "fairly ok". But they don't hold a candle to your stuff.

I haven't done any inlays yet, but one of these days I'd love to try. It looks like it would be a lot of fun...even the frustrations and disappointments that go along with learning this skill. It's a very creative art. And from what I have seen of your inlay work, you have mastered that skill.

That Kookaburra is absolutely gorgeous. Perfection. I love how you've chosen just the right pieces of pearl and abalone to create such a beautiful portrait of the bird.

Your talent is one-in-a-million my friend. Keep posting your work.

Re: Kooka

You guys are too kind..

I do this cos I love it.. dumb reason, but there you have it..
I'm sure you all relate, you are all here because of your love of the fine instrument that a guitar is..

Yes i do need to practice more..

a favourite quote of mine is by the great Pablo Casals, who was asked on the occasion of his 90th birthday why he still practised up to 8 hours a day..

His answer is pure gold..

" I think I'm noticing an improvement"

words we can all take heart with..

Doc...

Please come on over, this is a great and strange country, we love sports, beer, women, sports and beer, not necessarily in that order..
But you always have a place to stay should you get over here..

Again..
your words are very humbling

Thank you..

Peter,

I know you've told me before but I don't remember...Where do you live? What's the closest "big" city and how far away are you. (If you don't feel comfortable posting that info on the public forum, you can PM me).

Thanks

I'm living in Metung which is on the Gippsland Lakes, the closest big city is Melbourne which is about four hours travel East of Melbourne from Metung.
Its a very pretty spot, and quite popular as a holiday destination, I personally like it the off season, much quieter!!!
you can check it out here..https://www.visitvictoria.com/regions/Gippsland/Destinations/Metung
would love to see you sometime..
