Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

Hey guys, I've handled the Korg Pitch Black quite a bit and was very impressed with how well it worked, and really like the simplicity and easy to read LED. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the Planet Waves Chromatic Tuner as well... Anyone have experience with both?

I'm looking for a pedal-tuner in that price range and both of these intrigue me.

Lemme know your thoughts.

Thanks!

I like my Korg Pitchblack. Never tried the Planet Waves.

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

I like the Korg better than the PW.

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

FWIW, I'll still take the old standby Boss pedal tuner any day...

With all due respect, why? The Pitch Black is more precise, easier to read, and is true bypass.

In response to the OP: I own a Pitch Black and I'm convinced it's the best tuner pedal ever made. I've never tried the Planet Waves.

Why not?!

All this true bypass stuff is nonsense any way, the buffer was messing with my germanium fuzz pedals but I just stuck it in a stri[ wiht a tuner mute and that was solved. It's plenty precise enough for guitar anyway...NO guitar on the planet shy of fanned fret guitars and the like play in tune anyway much less the guitars most people play. It's as solid as a brick, has never let me down and if you can't use a Boss pedal tuner then you need help...

I personally see no reason to change it and it looks like most pros don't either...

There's nothing wrong with a Boss tuner. I went to pitchblack for my last tour and it worked great, though. And it was niceto have no boss buffers in the chain...

+1 for the Boss tuner. Mine still works great. I wouldn't mind trying the korg but why bother when the Boss still works fine. If the boss ever quit on me, I'd definetely try the Korg, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

right on...I keep mine in a tuner mute loop so no buffer...

Sho nuff...the good thing abotu a Boss pedal is that they can often double as a hammer, a weapon, or wheel chaulk when needed!

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

The Boss gets the job done and I wouldnt swap it, but if I was buying a new tuner because I didnt already have one I can't imagine why anyone would buy a new Boss one over the Pitch Black

Boss is less accurate
Harder to read
Not true bypass
Uglier
and the kicker, cost $10 more than the Pitch Black

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

I really like my Pitchblack.. Haven't tried the PW, but I too would take the Korg over the Boss..

Fair enough ... but you said you would take the Boss instead of the Pitch Black, which doesn't make sense in the context of the original post. I totally agree that there's no need to throw away a Boss tuner you already have.

So the Boss doesn't mute when you tune? The Pitchblack does :1:

It does mute ... Christian just has his in a bypass loop.

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

Right, it does mute I just have it in a strip so the buffer doesn;t ruin the tone of my transister fuzz and booster pedals.

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

I do know a dude who broke two boss tuners with his feet. He's a heavy unit and has been known to down a bottle of vodka per gig, though...

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

I also, like Christian, have a tuner mute loop that I'll be putting this into. I was pretty sold on the pitch black to begin with but I had a couple of friends here that swear by their planet waves tuner and I wanted to see what you all thought. I kinda knew enough the Boss and that's why I didn't bring it up in the original post. I like the Pitch black better than the boss because of readability... Just a personal preference I guess. If ya got anything else, let me know

Korg has always done right by me.

Re: Korg Pitch Black vs. Planet Waves Chromatic pedal tuner... FIGHT

I had a BOSS TU2 on my main pedalboard, but the time came for me to buy another pedal tuner for my 2nd pedalboard and I found a PitchBlack for cheaper than a TU2 so I gave it a try.

As I have a good quality buffer already at the start of my main pedalboard I ended up swapping around the TU2 and the PB and I couldn't be happier :)

Both are great pedals, I'd say the BOSS feels slightly sturdier underfoot but aslong as you don't go around randomly stomping on anything and everything with a heavy boot, the PB should be fine.
