Kramer Barretta Special

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

i have a jb in my epiphone and love it, but i was thinking more of a metal guitar with actives in it.

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

I was just thinking about the old Kramers in the 80s that came with the JB.
lots of metal made with those... of course it was "hair metal"
maybe not the metal you are looking for :eyecrazy:

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

true, alot of good metal bands used the jb baretta combo, idk its something to think about, thanks for the imput :)

Kramer Barretta Special

IMO, they are a mockery of the Kramer Baretta name. No Floyd Rose and an unknown Gibson branded pickup. Let's not forget that it's made in China of some "mahogany" type wood. It's not even close to being a Baretta.

Save up, search around and look for a Kramer American from the 80's. Another option is the Focus 1000, its Japanese counterpart.

If I seem bitter about these, it's because I am. I own 2 Kramers, Baretta and Focus 2000, from the 80's and have played many others. These Gibson Kramers are not real Kramers. It's in name only.

I'm with him ^^. The 80's Kramers will get you a lot more guitar for the money.

On topic, I tried a Blackout in my F1000 and didn't really care for it. Ended up with a Screamin Demon. May go back to a JB, but it has to be a zebra :-).

Solid colors can be had for really good prices. It's the Kline and Knapp graphic ones that catch higher dollar. Even the older graphics pre-Kline catch a pretty good buck.

Avoid eBay. Lots of mutts and scammers on there. Striker bodies mated with American necks being sold as Pacers and such. Gotta be careful there.

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

I bought a Gibson/Kramer and it was a junker. Bad paint, cheap hardware, and wasn't even set up. The bad paint qualified it for a return, when I got my 2nd Pacer it still had a big black glob of paint in the back of the guitar. I said F it and never bonded with the guitar at all and ended up selling it for a loss. The metal is so soft in the trems people keep breaking them. There's a guy on the Kramer forum now with one of the higher end Gibson/Kramer Sambora guitars with the tuners installed crooked, neck pocket was routed crooked with the high E falling off the neck, trem posts were installed crooked, and the list goes on and on. When he returned his he was told all that stuff was "normal wear and tear", just unbelievable. I love Kramer guitars and I really wish they would put out a quality instrument.

Until that day arrives I really recommend the Focus series as a really great intro guitar to Kramer's. Original Floyd Rose and built by ESP. Switch out the electronics and you have a killer guitar. AAAAaand because I'm a pic whore here is my Focus, I'm into this guitar $225 and it's one of my best players. Where you gonna find ESP's for $225? As for the PUP, I play metal dude and the JB is pretty good inside a Kramer. I do like EMG's but they are in my maple ESP where I didn't like the sound of any pup I put in it. EMG's sound like EMG's, doesn't really matter what you put them in, to me anyway.

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

ESP made them back in the day, at least for part of the time. Earlier Focus models are made by a different company in Japan. They don't make them now. Any Kramer branded guitars from about 1999 to present are made under Gibson.

Vengeance, I've seen that RS on the FB Kramer page. Total crap how it was done and handled. Last update earlier today was that a luthier is going to fix it for him. Told him some things that nobody else would. Glad he's getting it taken care of finally after all the crap he's gone through with it.

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

thanks :) that things beautiful! where do ya find those though? you said esp makes them now?

I picked the parts up off ebay. I got the loaded body and about 8 months later I got the loaded neck. This is guitar is from...about 86-87. When it comes to Kramer's you got to be patient when shopping but stuff always pops up. I own over a dozen Kramer's and would probably own a lot more as many deals as I find that I just have to say no too. There's a killer f-6000 body with a 86 American transitional neck for sale right now for $300. The tranny necks from that period are probably the best necks ever made. Shame they only made around 1000 of those necks as they are really hard to find. Once again I have to tell myself NO NO NO lol.

Oh forgot, NO ESP does not make them now. Now they are made in whatever Indonesian factory that will make them the cheapest. Kramer during the 80's out sourced all of their guitars. Some were Canadian,American, and Japanese. Parts came from all over the world. After 86 the production models were strictly ESP made of the highest quality.

I've been watching for deals on a Focus body for a project. Ones I've seen have been either overpriced or beat to snot so bad that it wouldn't be worth investing the time.

Re: Kramer Barretta Special

Schwing!!! Love me some old Kramers! Funny, back in the day, the idea of Japanese made Kramers and Charvels were completely EVIL!! But The Focus line and model series Charvels are Killer! Plus, much of the "American" Kramers where made by ESP.. Sad that the prices have gone up. a few years ago, you could score a great Focus 6000 for dirt cheap..
