**** it, why do they have to bring out a red So-Cal when I'm 'between jobs'.
****, ****, ****.

That Kramer looks mighty tempting to, but they don't seem to ship to the uk.
Hmm, $500, that's about £300... That can't be right, that's a steal if it's MIA

Re: Kramer Crusader vs Charvel So Cal

Hi all -

Looking at these guitars:

http://www.charvel.com/production_models.html

http://www.garykramerguitar.com/CrusaderDeluxe.html

Seem very similar in specs but very different in price.

Any comments on them would be greatly appreciated....

thanks in advance,

jeff

For one, the banner pic of the Metallic Gray Kramer shows an amazingly wide gap between the neck and sidewall. Jeez, it looks like you can store picks in there.

I've got 5 SoCals and counting, and they're great. Haven't tried the Kramer, but for $500.....

However, the bodies of the two models are identical in their routing; there is no extra wood missing under the So Cal's pickguard like on a typical Strat.

SoCals are routed under the guard for H-S-H and the center channel for the wires. Decidedly different from the Style 1, I'd say.

Any particular reason why that guitar is 500 freaking dollars?!

Selling direct-to-the-public like Carvin. Charvel has dealers. Looks like Kramer is selling straight to the people, so he can sell at a low price and still deliver a quality product by cutting out the middle man.
He's also going head-to head with Charvel that way.

Hmmmm. Charvel neck on a Crusader body.......hmmmm.

Re: Kramer Crusader vs Charvel So Cal

The Charvel definitely looks sexier with the colors offered and Fender headstock. Those Kramers look kinda like 80's Japanese knockoffs. I have an '85 Aria Pro II that looks kinda like that. Still, the price kinda puts it in another class altogether. May be worth it.

Re: Kramer Crusader vs Charvel So Cal

Yeah, Candy plum, no pickguard and Duncans would about get me there..

Then Id remember Im flat broke and it would be a bad case of blue fingers..

Re: Kramer Crusader vs Charvel So Cal

For those who posted charvels, there's a certain member of SDUGF who has you all beat... Goes by Mike I believe. Some say he's an OCDologist. Others say that he posts from time to time to make sure we have enough GAS to heat our homes... All we know is that he is... NOT the stig!

Re: Kramer Crusader vs Charvel So Cal

Charvel. I've always thought that that back-routed semi-classic body of the San Dimas gives you that unmistakable, creamy, thick, bright tone of the best from the era. Something that pointy strats dont really do. I would love to have a San Dimas body back routed for slanted single coil in the neck and bucker in the bridge, San Dimas classic, maple no fret board neck, but with a Blackmore scallop, Fullshred with Texas Special. Mmmm .... such custom job is prolly close to 3 grand .....
