Kramer Focus 6000 Body Wood

Re: Kramer Focus 6000 Body Wood

My Focus 6000 has by far the best neck I have ever played.

I had a Kramer Focus 6000 too. It had I think a satin neck? it had a rosewood fretboard. It had excellent pickups and nice cutaways. I loved everything about it except the rosewood fretboard and the Floyd Rose. The Floyd Rose had a wiggle in the tone arm and it rattled. I could have lived with the fretboard but the wiggle in the tone arm drove me nuts. I sold it and bought a Charvel which had a better Floyd Rose but Sh!ty pickups. The neck on that Charvel was good but still not as good as the neck on the Kramer Focus 6000. To me, Fender kind of picked up where Kramer left off and filled in the quality gap. I love my Eric Johnson with its 12 radius fretboard and I am modding it for a hum single single configuration. The super V locking trem is a direct mount and I am jonesing to get it done quick.

I love my rosewood fretboard and the original Floyd still works great.

it's a little hard to tell what's going on from those photos, but it seems like it has a few green areas in there that could indicate poplar.

poplar was much more common in the 80s Kramers than maple. the 80s Focus and Striker lines were totally made in Asia as entry-level economy instruments. many of them were good, but they are not extraordinary.

The Focus' were Japanese made and were actually quite good. The strikers were ply and not always so savory..

The focus 6000s came with orig floyds. If you had a bad system, yours may have been swapped. These models were Japanese made with good hardware and were designed to be cost effective copies of the USA guitars.. The pickups were the short cut..

I thought the pickups on mine where good, I got mine in 1988. It was candy apple red and it had a toggle switch which split the humbucker in addition to the five way pickup selector. all the hardware was black on it. They made other models with all maple necks but they were so popular they were actually back ordered at the time. Floyd Rose had occasional issues back then with a wiggle in the tone arm not fitting tight. There were all kinds of aftermarket fixes for this. I liked mine to swing free so it would not get in the way of my strumming downstroke when I wasnt using it but ya, that model of floyd had occasional issues. They screw down now and its a much better design than a bar that screws in by it self. Other then the tone arm the guitar itself was very good for its price. The fit and finish on mine was excellent including the frets.

It's the only guitar that I won't be able to part with. I easily sold off all of my other guitars but I will never sell this one.

I WISH!! And you'd be invited! Would be cool to crack a cold one with you bro!! Thanks for the heads up! I hit the forum at work, so I don't always have time to read all previous posts. Also, our system blocks alot of sites and content. (im sure they will eventually shut down access to this one on me) I looked back at your post and see 2 big white boxes. But yeah, see where you covered the info. Sorry didnt mean to step on your toes!

I tell you what..... I had a black 6000, I got it in extremely nice shape, with a really crappy hard case for $167.. I put a Custom 8 in the bridge and a couple of Dimarzio Fast tracks in the neck/middle. That guitar played great and had this amazing 80s tone . Im still sick as heck I ever let it go....

If only I drank.

Most of that stuff is generally on the vintage Kramer site. The guys I talk with that worked at Kramer back then back up a lot of that content without too many discrepancies. lol!

One of the biggest things that comes up from this guys has to do with Eddies and the photos of him in the shop (I posted a few in Pepe's "Seymour" thread a few months back). They pulled the actual workers away from those work stations and put Eddie in there for the photo. Eddie wasn't building or paint those Kramers. It's memorable because the guys that really did the work were not happy that anybody else, even Eddie, might get credit.

There are stories about guys coming into the shop and hearing someone wanking on the guitar doing an Eddie impression. Apparently, there were some Eddie imitators that worked there. Ha! One guy walked back there to see who was making all the noise that morning and it actually was Eddie with a 6 pack of Heineken.

you guys hear about the Micheal Jackson deal with Kramer? its kinda bizaar and I never heard completely what happened. I know the company nose dived a short time later. Anybody know why?

Re: Kramer Focus 6000 Body Wood

My 86 Kramer Focus 3000 is the heaviest guitar Ive ever felt other than my solid Ash jazz bass. Way heavier than my Strats! No way thats alder!

Re: Kramer Focus 6000 Body Wood

Now that everyone mentioned alder I can definitely agree that mine is alder. It is light in weight.
