Krank Rev jr??

Re: Krank Rev jr??

Killer!! I wonder if he is using any pedals too? he is reaching down to the floor.. If this is just the amp, Im sold..

Re: Krank Rev jr??

Even if you ignore the novelty value, it's a low-wattage hi gain amp.... fan-flippin-tastic idea! I saw it advertised in the recent Guitar World, and decided I need one :)

I just checked the price.... $699??!?!?! That's awesome!

Re: Krank Rev jr??

Hardly the first to attempt this idea. Soldano Atomic and astroverb, anyone?

-It's a big market: bedroom and occasional jam shredders, and it's easy to make a 10-18 watt amp that does this sound well, as modern high gain guys don't generally push their power sections very hard. All you have to do is design a nice series of cascading gain stages in the preamp, and you're away.

There are all sorts of high-gain 18 watt project amps out there, too.

Re: Krank Rev jr??

Hot grits,
Yes, they arent the first, but IIRC the Soldanos are still about $1000 for the head alone.. And there is a large trend of smaller wattage tube amps but most are very pricey boutiques.

Ive been wanting a small high gain tube amp. I have a half stack but it doesnt get the opp to breathe most of the time.. I Have a Peavey classic 30 and its a great amp, but it doesnt get any dirtier than classic rock.

So, Im excited about it. Believe me, I wouldnt mind having a Soldano, but the cost is too high.. ( Id LOVE an SLO!!!!) but thats a different league

Re: Krank Rev jr??

Randall also make a small, one module combo version of their modular preamp. Load that with the bogner, rodded marshall or recto module and you're good to go for all your gain-mongering needs.

Speaking of Peavey, the best amp they ever made was the classic 20, though I'd put the gain on that thing at between a marshall 18watter and a soldano. Great little amp.

Another killer high gain amp for low money is Ceriatone's Trainwreck Liverpool clone. Insane value for money.

Good idea. Unless you want the Krank. Not to mention, the Randall with NO modules is still $50 more.

Re: Krank Rev jr??

I've got to stop recommending amps to people who are shooting for sounds I don't really dig. Buy that Krank and be happy, I say.

I appreciate the info bro! really! I have no clue about the Randalls.. This is a very funny city I live in. We are huge and have a large population, but the music stores move very little high ticket items. So, they dont stock them. I cant play, soldano, krank, Randall, laney, diezel etc.. GC here has Some marshall , PV, B52, crate, low end Vox and Fender. one other local store has the same and there is one that adds Mesa, but they have limited selection and super high prices. So, you offered me ideas.

I can dig it. I live in New Zealand. Up until about 18 months ago I was in the same position as you. There was a small number of soldanos floating around secondhand and rumours of the odd Matchless here and there. That was it. I know exactly what it's like to be stuck in Peavey city dreaming of Soldanos. even now the big two retail chains don't want to stick their heads out on anything too high-end, which is smart business. Cheap stuff and major names sell.

Since then, the growth of internet based retailers and your weakened dollar have improved things immensely. Small local dealers are now bringing in THD, 65, Div13, TopHat, Victoria, Carr, CAE, Matamp, Splawn... -I'm lucky enough to have been around long enough to know all the guys bringing them in, so I've tried the lot, and I've had a ball doing it.

I suggest you maybe save up for a trip to the nearest serious amp dealer you can reach. It's great fun, even if you don't end up buying anything. get a copy of vintage guitar magazine for ideas on where dealers and makers are. There may be one tucked under your nose.

Also perhaps get over to the gear page and have a talk to guys over there about US based 18 watt high gain amp makers. you might find some amazing amps built right in your back yard for a good price, or a great s/h deal.

You may be isolated where you are, but you still live in the greatest country known to man when it comes to guitar amps. Good luck!

I got it. Great amp. Have the Dan Donegan 1086 module, and will get more.

Still, as been stated, the cost of the Randall is way more when you factor in the modules, not to mention a cab. Plus the Krank is made in the USA.
