Re: krank revolution head?
A few of you might remember, but I did a review on that Krank head,
just to see for myself. I've heard and owned a lot of highend amps, so
put that sucker through it's paces at high volume. I even used my
C-5/59 Les Paul Custom, so I could reference it against the other amps I've plugged into. I don't think all of that bad rap is fair. I think the problem with Krank is that they came outta the gate spamming their amps next
to the likes of Bogner, Diezel, and ENGL, and that was a boastful way to
market a new amp with a silly name, with a silly Krunch and Kleen channel.
I ran that amp through ever tone I could get out of it with 3 different guitars,
to make it fair. The amp was designed for metal and downtuners, so you've
got to realize who it was marketed toward. The construction of the amp, inside and out, was very good. The Kleen :laugh2: channel is one of the best I've heard on a multichannel metal amp. To me, it sounded like a
Peavey Classic 100 or Fender Deville clean channel, since it's a 6L6 amp.
The gain channel was capable of giving every tone from G. Lynch to
Pantera, and it does it very well. The only place I could see some improvement would be more sustain and tube compression. It sounded a bit more wide open and crunchier than my Bogner, with a little less harmonic richness. Still, for 1400, it's in the same category as Mesa and VHT,
not Bogner or Diezel. Personally, I think that if the amp had a different name
and a more serious vibe, and was about $200 cheaper, it might have been a big success. Coming out of the gate and making big claims and having
harmony-central erase all the reviews, is not a good thing for Krank.
As far as bashing them, and if you're a metal player.....you'd better have something better than a Krank to be bashing them. It's a better sounding amp than 5150's, XXX, XXL, Legacy, many Marshall models, and many Mesas.
There are some famous players using Kranks, and liking them better
than Rectifiers, so they can't suck that bad.
