Krank Revolution with non Krank cabinet?

Hey guys,
Its been awhile since if been logged on, ive been really really busy. Anyways, I had to send back my vintage spec plexi reissue because even though it sounded great it kept blowing fuses and stuff. Anyways, I got to hear one of those Krank 100 watters and damn are they great sounding. Anyways ive been saving up some money and am thinking of buying one of there heads, My only problem is that there cabs cost 1000$ which is a lot of money! I dont think ill be able to afford that for quite a while. Has anyone tried a Krank with Celestions or anything and in a cab that isnt a Krank cab? How does it sound? Also anyone know were you can buy one of the combo versions online? i cant find one anywere!

Thanks,
Max

revolutionguitar.com is a dealer, and my friend Todd will hook you up with the best price. I'm sure there's almost no difference in tone or quality between the Krank and your Budda cab, plus the covering doesn't look much different. I've been wanting to go over to Todd's location in Culver City and check out a Chadwick 50, also.
The Revolution 100 is a pretty killer head for metal, but doesn't offer a lot of 'in between' tones. It's basically a clean tone like Peavey Classic or Fender Deville, with a gain channel that is everything between Lynch and Dime.

I think GJ might be on to something with the 50w comment ...

Didn't you say that the Budda Superdrive 80 was far too loud? I don't know how a Krank 100w compares ... just a tought ...

Yah, you do have a point there, but that Krank just blew my mind! Maybe i might have to get a hotplate for it, but it sounds great.

GJ, yah it doesnt have much of an in between voice, but im over it, cause i am really diggin both channels and im sure those can tide me over untill i can buy a straight up crunch amp.

Hey GJ, fill us in on the Chadwick if you go..........that's the only Krank I'm interested in.

Is Revolution a retail shop. I called over there a few times and got an answering machine. Is he internet sales only?

Revolutionguitar.com is an internet store, but not an actual store. There's no relation between his name and the Revolution amp....he's just a dealer for Krank, Fargen, and GT. If you're local, he may let you come by to check out an amp by appointment, but the place is more like a warehouse than a guitar store.

The difference between the Budda SD80 and Revolution 100 is that the Budda needs to be turned up. Since the Krank is a master volume amp with a LOT of preamp gain, you can actually get it to sound the way you want at reasonable volumes. When turned up, it'll rearrange your furniture.
Before I went over to his place to try it out, Todd said "don't forget your athletic cup." :laugh2:

Re: Krank Revolution with non Krank cabinet?

Im curious though, i only have heard the Krank Revolution with humbucking pickup equipped guitars. How would Strat single coils sound? i dont like the way single coils sound with say, 5150's or Rectos and high gain amps like that, but those most of those amps seem to have a lot of compression and color the guitars sound a lot... What im trying to say is that I love the way Strats sound, there spank, unique punch, clarity, and the overall feel they have and its hard to find an aggressive high gain amp that keeps your guitar and pickups feel and doesnt try to make it sound like a wannabe Les Paul or some Ibanez metal guitar. So does anyone know about this? By the way, i do know that the Chadwick sounds great with Strats, that i do know.

Out of most highgain amps, the Krank really does have a good clean channel, which would sound great with strats. As for the gain channel, I'm sure you could get a strat to sound good with it, especially if you had the gain lowered, the master high, and plenty of mids. One thing I like about the Krank is a knob that allows you to change the girth of the sound from a thinner Vai type sound, to a crushing wall of fatness. It's only negatives, from my perspective, were that it's highgain doesn't sustain quite as well as a Bogner or Soldano and it doesn't have LED's on the front panel to tell you what channel you're on (footswitch does). It's a tightly constructed amp, tho, and looks like a very roadworthy metal machine. I get the impression that you'd never have a problem with it, since it has very few bells n whistles.....just two channels and an FX loop, nothin else.
