Hey folks,

It's time to retube the Fender Twin. I have been using a pair of kt66hp's for the last year or so and they have been great. I have read a couple reviews of kt88's and think they might be great. Anyone have experience? If so, please do tell!

Re: kt88's anyone?

a pair of kt66's, what were the other two? :)

kt88's are kinda like 6550's in tone, sorta. very big with huge headroom, dont expect them to break up.

Re: kt88's anyone?

i like huge headroom... but in 50 watt or lower amps that distort early. A nice warm smooth distorting set of tubes would work nicely in a twin due to the extra wattage.

maybe try a NOS Jan Phillips, i hear they sound darker and smoother than most 6l6's...they're pretty darn cheap for nos too!

Re: kt88's anyone?

thanks. sounds like I want to stick with the 66's. I like huge fat tone, but I need them to break up too:) Last time I went with hardness 4. I think that this time I might actually go for hardness 3. when I set my twin to 1/4 power (15w), it still breaks up somewhere between earsplitting and window shattering volumes.
