Re: Kurt Cobain's Fender Jaguar - former owner revealed!
That's a cool story man! I think some people just need to be negative, take it with a grain of salt! Kurt Cobain changed music forever if you like it or not? Rock was basically dead in the mainstream until Grunge came along, if you turned on a raido all you heard was Boys to Men and other crappy R&B, "we just ripped off Motown & you love it" stuff? If you were lucky enough to still have a rock station around you at that time it was all Classic Rock Led Zep, Sabbath, and perhaps some of the 80's bands that weren't complete jokes, I.E.- Matalica, Megadeath, maybe a few others? Cinderella & I know I'm going to take some heat for this but, E.V.H. & his awesome 80's attire turned a lot of the younger generation against rock, and corny music like that eventually almost killed it? Nobody wants to see grown man in makeup and neon green spandex anymore!!!! That whole "we are the best because we say we are, now give me more coke" deal became a huge joke pretty fast! Don't get me wrong, I think E.V.H. is an amazing guitarist and a lot better than I'll ever hope to be, but a lot of people consider it clown rock? Probably because they all dressed like clowns!!!
The biggest thing bands like Nirvana did was to get a whole generation of kids playing their own music and playing guitars again! Not since the 60's was playing an instrument and being in a band so popular! If I never heard Incestacide or Nevermind when I was younger and full of angst I'm not sure if I would have started to play guitar? A lot of us might have turntables instead & we'd be sampling original songs from the 60's & 70's because before Nirvana that's pretty much where music was headed.
They came out so "anti everything" that their music seemed to sum it up for a lot of kids who were just angry & didn't have a outlet for that anger? They weren't writing songs about girls & cars, no spandex, & it was anything but positive, just noise and aggressive playing coupled with some amazing song writing! Kurt's voice becomes the voice of a generation but because they were seen as anti Hair Band and Anti Social really, anyone who grew up liking & listening to Van Halen and Cinderella feels like they need to put them down now...
That guitar is every bit as much a pice of rock history as the Frankensrtat or Jimmy Page's L.P., some people just have a hard time admitting it, I think finding out who the original owner and modder was is pretty darn awesome...
Modern Rock, Punk, Heavy Core, none of them would sound the same without Nirvana! Unfortunately nothing is 100% original, I don't know, maybe Bieber Fever would be the same if grunge never existed but I don't know if I'd be playing guitar & that would most definitely suck!!!
