Kustom Amps.

Re: Kustom Amps.

i had a Kustom SS quad 200h head and it was pretty good for a solid state, you get alot for your money it seems.

Re: Kustom Amps.

I don't know if I'd call an amp company that's been around since 1966, familiar to about every guitarist, and available at musician's friend an "underground" company.

But I'd play one, probably that lil' hybrid combo they got.

Re: Kustom Amps.

if i was poor id get one. haha, my dad used to have a bass amp from kustom and it sucked, but the new guitar stuff is actually pretty decent and cheap. they just arent "big" like other companies

Re: Kustom Amps.

I'd like to try one of those new Quad 100 combos. Have heard good things about it. Not a modeling amp but plenty of versatility.

Re: Kustom Amps.

the quad juniors are really nice ss amps and the coupe series really is a cool line. Sounds nice when turned up a bit. I played through one at NAMM and it was the first time i was able to get a nice full sound out of a stock strat bridge single coil. I like em, but wouldnt buy one.

Re: Kustom Amps.

The Tube 12 rocks. It's tube channel sounds warm, and well, "tubey". On top of that, it puts out a surprising amount of volume for a practice amp, probably due to the 8 inch Brit made Celestion.

I've run mine through my V30 loaded Marshall 2x12 and it sounds huge. :)

Re: Kustom Amps.

guitar center also sells Kustom now.

Also if you have single coils do yourself a favor get a quad head, with the fat button engaged you will get an big round thick bell sound. As i think someone else mentioned its great for strats, the thing that sucks on them is the dirty channel, it has no balls what so ever, and "feels" terrible. The amp is great for using the clean channel with pedals.

Correction for Dankstar.

Correction for Dankstar.

What I meant by saying that Kustom is underground is that the company is unpopular. I am aware of how long they have been around. Alot of people seem to talk about Marshall, Fender, Mesa, and Ampegs (bass amps of course) without mentioning others. All that was meant is that there are other good amps out there that are overlooked.

I bought one of the Tube 12A's to take to a friend's house when we jammed. I was tired of hauling around my Traynor.
This thing sounds pretty good for it's size!

Not at all Dude, I have KGA15R that I take gain to about five and before that I hit the signal with John Spina moded TS9 with drive at 2 and level at 9 and I get heavenly crunch, tight bottom end, very precise, screaming pick harmonics, and great mudless palm mutes. I am ashamed to talk so much good stuff about a solid state practice transistor box, but the damn thing is so good.
