Re: L@@K: a silver jubilee in black!!!
25/50 means Jim Marshall's amp company was in business 25 years, but his time involved in music was 50 years. It confuses people when they see the badge on the upper left corner of the amp. They all say 25/50, even though Jubilees had model names like
2555, 2550, 2558, 2553 etc. The only amp that is truly a Jubilee 2550 is the fullsize 50watt head.
The Silver Jubilees were only produced in 1987, and my first major purchase in life was a 2555 100W head, which I bought brand new for $880 out the door, since the salesman really knew I wanted it badly. They normally sold for $900 + tax.
I used the amp for several years, and sold it like a moron to buy a rack setup.
In 1988, Marshall still made those amps, only they were black with gold front. Same amp, but a little less collectible.
In 2000, I saw an ad pop up in the recycler.com for a 2550 Jubilee fullstack with original covers, manual, and bumper sticker. I couldn't believe it said $1500 obo.
I drove way out into the middle of the California desert, and handed this guy $1400 for his mint stack, which he pulled out of his closet. I have JJ E-34L's and Sovtek 12AX7LPS pre tubes in it, and it's the best sounding highgain I've ever heard come out of any Marshall.......clean and midgain tones are great too.
Here it is.
