I got me a Frankie project. Im hopeing its useable. I have no idea what he means by "routed full boat". Im scared the tremolo route isnt going to work. Do you think thats tape or paint? I got it cause it lools like paint, and that somebody put lot of work into it. Not expecting much..hope to be surprised. I got it for way less than $25,000. ;

It looks like paint, not a bad job. I'm pretty sure the boat he's referring to is the pickup cavity routing. Boat means the pickup cavity is one big swimming pool, no individual routes for each pickup. The decal might be a sticker on the pickguard? Not sure.

****.. about the route..there goes my plan to make it a Frankie with a bridge bucker. a waste of money.I pulled the trigger too fast on that. No wonder it hadnt sold. Well, I guess I can still route out the pickgaurd with a dremel for a Bridge bucker. That might not be so bad. Now I'll need a Mitey mite maple neck or something. Throwing good money after bad.

Sorry to be such a buzz kill man. How much did you pay for it? Could still do it like you said and cut out for a humbucker in the bridge.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Just get a different pickguard. A solid black would look pretty cool, albeit not authentic. I personally like the swimming pool route under the guard because it gives you plenty of flexibility.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

pfsshhhsh just put the bridge bucker in there anyways. it'll have your own signature 'jacked up' look, rather than van halen's signature 'jacked up' look. but then again, i have some pretty jacked up looking guitars so it's probably not for everybody...

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Roll with it, Jerry. For $25 you did alright. Find a neck and wire that ****er up! Screw the authentic VH look, it's overdone anyway.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Bridge bucker-500k pot and your good to go. If your handy with tools, the trem shouldn't
be a problem.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

$25???? That's too cheap man. I think he's tryin' to con ya. Safe bet would be to offer him $50 to relist.............................. :friday:

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Nah, Im gonna crank my Marshall with a Carl Martin Plexitone and do Eruption with a badazz Seymour '78!

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Warmoth does pickguards with an angled humbucker cutout. $25 on a pickguard wouldn't be too much "good" money after bad considering it would help you get the right tone.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Just work it - don't make it so much of a clone, but more of an homage.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

hey jerry why don't you try and wire up a strat neck and bridge 'bucker for that classic vh tone? ;D

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

Hey Jerry, you might want to check here at the forum for another old Kramer project. I can't remember who had it, but it was l;isted on the trading post and never sold that I remember. Seems like it was a neckthrough Nightswan and had the same EVH style paintjob. I'll do a search and see if I can find the member whos got it. I want to say Donnievaz, but I may be wrong.

Re: L@@K at my New EVH Van Halen Project I won

i just saw a post about the evolution of Frankie on another board and this is how Ed's real Frankie looked in 1979 right after it got the red paint....

so just do that to yours and you'll be all good.

I'm sure it had about 5 other looks we don't even know about, and maybe six different pups.
