So I bought myself a new Epi. L.P. the other day (mostly because it was almost 1/2 off on clearance) & as expected the pickups suck & the frets felt like razors! I went ahead & ordered some pickups, I decided to go with Duncan Custom Floor pickups because I wanted black and white zebra bobbins & a 4 wire lead with my 59N. I settled on a SH-5/SH-1 59N set, originally I was just going to stick with a 59 in the bridge as well but my dealer only had reverse zebra in black and white, plus I think I'd rather have the added output in the bridge?
I spent the past few days getting the neck & intonation in order. The neck was straight enough but those frets were terrible! I knocked down the rough edges and polished each of them with some steel wool. It's much easier to play now but them pickups are still there so I checked the status of the puppies and they'll be here tomorrow! So just for turds & squirts I went & opened up the backplate & much to my surprise there's that Quick Connect B.S. in it! Should have guessed but I was like 19 the last time I did a pickup replacement in a L.P.?
Please understand that I'm really not that big into L.P.'s. in the first place, Epiphone's or Gibson's? Actually I don't really like the feel of most of Gibson's solid body guitars, Explorers excluded!!! I don't know, I love their sound & having the independent volume knobs for each pickup is great but that's about where our relationship parts. I'm not going to list off the stuff that I don't like because it's besides the point & it would take to long, this is just a project to play with?
Now, since the last L.P. I worked on was in the late 90's I need some help with these stupid things. The volume pot where the connections go are also push/pulls. On these pots are a series of solder prongs right next to the female harness. Can I just solder to the existing push/pull pot's prongs without the quick connect or am I going to have to replace them in order to get my Duncan's in??? I can put up a picture of the guts if you like but I'm guessing anyone who has the answer already knows exactly what I'm talking about?
Thanks!!!!
