LA Amp Show 2007

Re: LA Amp Show 2007

Dr Mavishi - I own a Weber Mass just like the one in the somewhat blurry pic. I've had it for almost a year now. Great little peice of kit and it does a wonderful job of taming volume without killing tone. Speaker efficiency is the only thing that gets in the way of good tone at low volumes now. Those G12H30 clones I have just don't sound as good at low volumes, but I can still tell that the amp's signal is perfectly undiluted and unchanged even at low enough volumes for the speakers to start failing the tone. I don't think that you could find a better attenuator.

Re: LA Amp Show 2007

GearJ, you should have stopped in and said hey at the Red Iron Amps room. I was there all day! If you didn't get to hear or play it, I have all the amps still here in LA for soundclips if you're at all interested in hearing them. I may try and setup a small group for those wanting to get a second (or third) listen.

Glad you dug the Kasha stuff. I've been preaching his stuff for ages, including the Quickmod. John's Quickmod totally took my modded Valve Jr into new territory!

Re: LA Amp Show 2007

Kasha's speaker cabs win my vote for most innovative gear. The baffle board is attached to a footswitchable motor, which allows you to morph between sealed and open. It's really cool to hear the change in sound. I took a pic of the 1-12, but the 2-12 and 4-12 with motorized baffles.....SOOOO COOL!!!!

So the front baffle rotates? Not the rear? Interesting...

Might be hard to take advantage of that on-stage, harder to mic?! And what's with the pod thingy in front of it?!?

How were those Goodsell's?

And would that be Richard Goodsell of 'Numerous Complaints' fame? Hammond organ builder/rebuilder of the rock stars?

Re: LA Amp Show 2007

Man I am sooo thankful to have farted out all of my amp GAS. I used to not be able to look at threads like this without buying.

Looks killer Joe!!

J!

Im amazed that you know of not ol=nly the Goodsell amps and Richard Goodsell but you also know of Numerous Complaints!!! That is the same guy BTW...he's a local boy (local to Atlanta) and is the same guy that used to re build Hammonds! In fact the Goodsell amps are based (quite closely in fact) on old organ amps...

Heh heh heh heh

I get around man...

Richard Goodsell built the HIGHLY modified Hammond that Damian Calcagne from Swampadelica has been using for the last 15 years or so...

Actually, it was built when he was touring with From Good Homes (signed to RCA in the early 90s) and it was Dai's idea to chop the A100... Richard thought it was crazy but has since put together 40 or 50 of 'em that are out with Medeski & whatnot... but Dai has the original beast!

I've been working on their record for the last year & mixing FOH for them since '99...

Check out the Coffee Cup...rough mix from the upcoming rekkid...

The 'Gordon Apparition' is also my mix...

Download "Ganesh" as well. You won't regret it...

Joe, what did you think about the Mini Plex? My buddy just got an older MP about a month ago and it's killer. He checked on upgrading it to a MkII(about $400 + shipping). I wonder if it's worth it? Also what did you think about the little Brown Notes?

I asked Ben Fargen what the difference was between the first Mini Plex and the new one. He answered "it's a whole different amp....completely different."
The new one is hotter and tighter sounding. The first one was a bit more spongey and vintagey.

My favorite Fargen amps are the VOS, of course, and the Mighty Plex.
I haven't tried the Olde 800, but I might see one at the revolutionguitar.com warehouse I'm going to on Sunday, to see Todd the owner.
