Labeling of RWRP SSL-1 middle pickup?

Can anyone clarify for me - what is the labelling of SSL-1 RWRP middle pickups on the silver tag on the back?

I bought an SSL-1 RWRP online on Amazon from what would appear to be a dealer. But, what I received arrived in a ziplock bag instead of factory packaging, (although it included screws, pickup, cover, and wire diagram).

Additionally, there is no indication that it is actually an RWRP. The tag on the back says SSL-1 Middle. Since the product page says this pickup is available with an OPTION of RWRP, I'm led to believe that what I received is probably just a normal SSL-1 middle pickup, not RWRP.

Thanks@

I wish I could tell you what the tag on that specific pickup says, but I can't. I have the original packaging for the flat coil model, though, and it says "SSL-2 Vntg Flat for Strat RwRp".

I'm no expert on SSL's but from what I found you can check the magnet polarity to find out.
If it's North up it is RW/RP if South is up it is not.
Fender stock pickups are AFAIK opposite polarity of Seymour Duncans, so take that into consideration if you mix it with pickups from other manufactures.

non rwrp sounds better anyway, so install it and find out.
If not, then i have an rwrp that i dont use if its any good to you.

Another way is to look at the wire colours if you have a normal ssl1 to compare with. Typically they'll have a black and white cloth wire.....the colours and what side they come from will be reversed.

No, if it says middle it will be rwrp. I think that is the extent of the labeling that you get.

rwrp is the work of the devil anyway...

What is the marking on the back of your RWRP? Does it say "SSL-1 RWRP" or "SSL-1 Middle" ?

Great suggestion - I compared it to a new "normal" SSL-1, the lead colors are reversed in position...that's encouraging. And flipping the two "face to face" they seem to attract fairly strongly so this suggests the magnet orientations are opposite. Maybe this is actually an RWRP after all.

I'm just skeptical because I've had half a dozen people with RWRPs, and a couple images I found all telling me their SSL-1 RWRP is marked with a tag that says exactly that.
And because it didn't arrive factory packaged, I think the seller maybe mixed it up and sent the wrong thing.

That said, the tag also includes 20141209, presumably a date stamp, so maybe its brand new and SD possibly changed the way they are marking these? I've left voice mail and e-mail for SD support - hopefully they will reply before I give up and just return it to the seller, and try again elsewhere.

Hmmm....if only I had a flippin' compass, or an answer from SD tech support, I'd be all set! :)
But thanks for your reply, I'll probably find a compass and check it...I must have one somewhere.

I'm just skeptical because every single person who actually has an SSL-1 RWRP has told me theirs is marked exactly that way on the back. I've not had one person tell me they have one that is marked SSL-1 Middle like mine is.

Re: Devil, HA! pretty sure you are right there.

Thanks :)

I don't think so. The actual wind is reversed so the black and white wires are left in the same place.

Yep. It's RWRP. Will sound great with that SSL-1

it says RWRP. I bought it as part of the "california set" so maybe they are marked differently than individual ones/

I heard back from the seller and they claim they split a set and that this middle pickup is RWRP...think I'll wait to hear back from SD customer support or try (again) to actually get to talk to someone. I doubt the dealers are supposed to be splitting sets and selling individual pickups like that. I understand their motivation -- they can probably make an extra 20 on the set if they sell all 3 piecemeal.

It's interesting that your set was still labelled SSL-1 RWRP and this says SSL-1 Middle.
