Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time...

I'd mentioned in a few other threads that I was beginning a new project! With the exception of the bridge and copper shielding, everything is here! My first Strat style guitar!

I'll be using CTS pots (250k of course), Hipshot Grip-Lock locking tuners, California 50s calibrated single coil set, some chrome knobs, and of course a wilkinson bridge!

If you haven't guessed I'll be finishing both the body and the neck in 10 layers of Tru Oil apiece.

First layer on:

Alder body, maple neck, and SD 50s set?

Whole lotta chime be gonna be goin' on... Enjoy!

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time...

Nice. A carve top too... Bonus points. The oiled alder looks similar to the walnut one I have and is soon to be complete

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time...

It is indeed a carved velocity. Ive got three layers of Tru Oil on it so far. The neck is all shiny but I'm going to change that. After a few more layers on the neck and lots of sanding Im going to give it more of a "satin" finish.

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time...

What profile did you go with on the neck?

Sent from my iPad using a bunch of electrons, copper, and probably some fiber optic cable

Some updates, the finish has a few base coats now. Time for some sanding later!

Great looking build! How are you planning on finishing the guitar? It will look great in a satin finish.

It will be finished entirely with Tru Oil, I will go with a satin finish on the back of the neck and the back of the body but I will leave the top glossy on both the neck and the body. Almost all the parts are here! Just waiting on the bridge, pickup rings, and the copper shielding.

Another update, after three base coats to build up a layer, the fourth Coat is applied and looking smooth and shiny

That is really looking good. It wouldn't hurt if you put a little bit in the control and pick up cavity's to seal up the wood in there as well.
