I'm seriously interested in getting a 4 string Lakland bass, but there are none to be found where I live (eastern Canada), so that means I might have to order one/or buy one used through an online store or eBay without actually playing one first. After reading reviews and such, i've decided that i'd go with a "Skyline" (made in Korea) version, since they are actually assembled at their Chicago factory, and get the same electronics as the USA made ones, and apparently the quality is top notch..
I've narrowed it to 2 choices: The Joe Osborn model or the Darryl Jones model..
They each have optional pickups (Lakland, Barts, Hammon Dark Star's or Lindy's on the Osborn; Lakland or Aero's on the Jones model)..For Preamp: Bartolini 3 band or Aguilar 2 band (optional) or J-Retro (optional)
Has anybody on this board ever play(ed) or own(ed) one or both models? What pickups would you suggest? Which preamp would you choose?
I like a bass that has powerful bottom, with a nice growl for harder styled music..It will be played through an Eden WT800B with a 610XLT (6x10) Eden cab. Fulltone Bass-Drive for occasional bass overdrive..
