GAS! Just seen them both go really cheap on ebay, and I want one. Which do you reckon is the best all round amp?
The best clean?
Pros and cons of each?

The GH50L doesn't have a clean channel, it's a one channel amp, so you probably shouldn't expect pretty good cleans at all, but with that said, I've never tried one ;) I don't know much about the AOR's.

I know it's a one channel amp, what I would probably do is use it with a really light crunch and then kick in an sfx-03 for more.

The GH has the better cleans in the 6L6 configuration, really good cleans.

The AOR has better cleans than a JCM 800, but only a little.

I have a series 1 AOR50 and a GH100L. Good cleans are as setup dependant at a good gain channel. A heavy distorting speaker doesn't usually lend itself to good cleans like a good open speaker would.

Ah cool thanks. Sounds like theyre both pretty good all rounders. Can you still get that great british overdrive tone with 6L6s in the GH?
Any way of getting great sounding cleans with the AOR?

the cleans on mine are real nice (dont have a GH though) and the gain is great. it's got 6l6 tubes.

Re: Laney AOR50 Watt Series 2 Vs. GH50L

Does yours have a clean channel Davey? I wish mine could be modded to have one, somehow.

Re: Laney AOR50 Watt Series 2 Vs. GH50L

Be carefull, its the second generation(more than six knobs) that a lot of time those have a reputation for far lower quality of manufacturing.

Re: Laney AOR50 Watt Series 2 Vs. GH50L

You want a gh, because I want two AORs. So bid on the GHs. :P

The 6L6's are fantastic in the GH series, imo. I haven't tried to get a better clean out of my AOR. If I did I would go with something like Emi R,W&B speakers or a big Jensen. Something open with a rolled-off top end. There are too many tube choices to speculate, but I am never a fan of getting great cleans from EL34's.
