This is what I call ****ing tone!!!!!!!!! This is a Laney GH50L clip, posted at the Harmony Central boards.. I always recommended Laney, and this clip shows some seriously good tone (at least to me).. For the price I don't think you can find much better.

Gibson Flying V bridge 500T pickup > BOSS GE-7 EQ > LANEY GH50L > Sennheiser E609 > BOSS BR-1600CD recorder (built in fx.)

2 rhythm tracks panned 56 L/R, lead has a good amount of added verb and delay.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Not bad, especially considering it's price. It does sound too dark for my tastes and a bit "raspy", which, I'm afraid, seems to be a trademark for a Laney sound. Maybe it's bit muddy too in the end. But it is a cheap amp.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Well, I think those things add to the sound in a nice way, but I guess that's just taste :beerchug:

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

I can't listen to clips on this computer, but I have a good idea what it sounds like.

And I agree with the above....although I do love the Laney sound, I can completely understand why it isn't for everyone.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Sounds good, though i would say that about the amp obviously:) For me i dont dial in heavy tones that much, more ACDC gain territory type thing, and i love the way that sounds. Very versatile amp through out its gain range IMO

Well it is maybe that, but the quality of the inards, is alot better than the much higher priced Marshalls of today.
No cheapo parts and halfa$$ed solutions in Laneys, and through different speakers you can get a very very good sound out of those:)

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Thanks for the info Rid :beerchug: I don't know much about the parts inside amps, but I'm glad you can contribute with that. ;)

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

That clip doesnt sound very natural.. to me thats not the Laney sound. It sounds "doctored" if you know what i mean. Plus its obvious the guy has some experience doing this stuff. Still good though, i liked it.

Yes, I didn't mean "cheap" in quality. I know nothing about their quality. I do know that it's about the cheapest 50w tube amp available in Finland.

I do wonder why they're not any more popular. Maybe because it's european and therefore the prices in the US are too big for it to become popular there? And all the european masses follow what the americans play. Or what is the case? One'd think he'd see more of them, especially at the excellent price/quality ratio.

Dunno to me it is ok, they have their topnotch users:)
Too popular and it gets too generic;)

I guess you're right about that.. And what happens when stuff get too popular? The quality will probably suffer, like newer marshalls.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Or you get tired of hearing the same sound:)
Like Boogies and PRS guitars, or for that matter Fulltone effects, not to slam Mike in any way, he does make popular and good products.
Hehe which reminded me of a session once, we where recording some stuff for a friend I have, the bassist looked at the other guitarplayer, you are not going to use that blue thing again...eh??
Lol I guess he have had his share of fulldrives;)

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Is that a one channel or multi channel? I liked the tone too! Unfortunately, 3.5 on the master volume is way louder than I'd ever need :laugh2:
But I liked it.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Yeah, those go for around 400 pounds I think. Meh one channel = impossible to switch from clean to not clean. But daamn... I had no idea these had so much gain.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

As far as I know, they have even more gain. At least I've heard clips with more gain.
