Yeah, those go for around 400 pounds I think. Meh one channel = impossible to switch from clean to not clean. But daamn... I had no idea these had so much gain.

How is it impossible? You don't have a volume pot on your guitars?

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

Oh I do, AND they're wired so I can go directly from clean to full on ;) But it's just handier to be able to switch with only one button and one switch. I already do it on the POD because I have no footswitch for it yet, but that shall change soon.
The Stagemaster only has one volume control, but it's a pushpull and when it's up, it bypasses the volume. The model 4 has a miniswitch that makes the bridge pickup bypass all other controls, so I can also select the neck pickup with the volume rolled off, then with one switch get to full on bridge. The model 1as has the standard 5 way and individual volumes for bridge + neck.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

not my cup of tea but I think you can pull great sounds outta those laneys...that fizz and darkness always bugged me tho.

Honestly a well tweaked POD will do tone like that all day long...the lower gain stuff is hardest to pull off.

I suspect the reason they are not more popular here is POOR FRIGGIN DISTRIBUTION..in the late 80s they were easy to find. I haven't seen a new one in a store in 12 years.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

If you prefer using a footswitch for different gains, the amp has 2 gain stages and they are footswitchable

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

I'm looking at the flagship of the laney range at the moment. The VH100R.
2 Channels, each with footswitchable gain, massive effects routing possibilities, and that classic dark, thick laney sound.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

I own a GH100TI and have to say mine sounds vastly different from this one. The 100TI has a much more vintage tinge to it, though this might be the EL34's. This particular clip has a very cliche type distortion sound to me, sort of the new modern metal type sound that i don't favor. But i've heard great sounds from this amp othewise.
Still Can't understand why he would want to boost the 100Hz and 200Hz frequency on his EQ. If he was playing live or in a studio, i'd guarantee the Engineer or producer would say "Could ya turn yer bass down a bit mate, i'm clipping like crazy on the palm mutes"

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

A Laney GH50L and Marshall JMP/JTM/Plexi of some sort would be the two last amps I would ever need in combo with my Mesa. Laney stuff is great IMO and the GH50l and GH100L rock like no tomorrow.

Re: Laney GH50L TONE!!!!!

I liked the tone, but it wasn't quite...what I'd want for my sound. But I think it was probably the way it was EQ'd, since I don't like to scoop or cut the mids at all.

Shwing!

I find it very difficult to describe why I like the TI so much....but it is a great feeling amp to play on.
