Laney Hybrid + Fulltone OCD = AC/DC?

Hello guys, how are you? Hope you are fine.
Well, i'm posting here to collect some opinion from you regarding a "tone seeking" (maybe a bit of gas also).
Your opinion are very important to me.

Alright, im a owner of a hybrid laney amp (tf-200) and a lp copy guitar equipped with a dimarzio airzone (moderated output) on the bridge. I'm looking for a way to get THAT "ac/dc-rythm-guitar's-rispid-tone" . I know that tone only come from a straight connected guitar+plexi. But, if theres any pedal that could enable me to get NEAR that tone without selling my lung to buy an allTube, it will be probably provided.

So i've been listening some OCD samples and reading (a lot of) reviews about the OCD.

Well, here i am to ask you, do you think that i can go wrong purchasing an ocd looking for this kind of tone?
Is there possible to get this tone with and hybrid amp using only a OCD? I like the drive of the amp, but i think it lacks much of POWER/punch. In addition, i guess the drive of OCD (marshall-like) could be nicer than the british-like overdrive of my amp.

To illustrate my text: I'm looking for something like the intro of the songs "Rock n roll singer" and "its a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll", and the rythm guitar (not the introduction riff) of "you shook me all night long" (my favorite).

fyi: I live in a small city and theres no way to test it before buy it.

I thank you for any help and look forward your reply. (and sorry about my english, im brazilian)

Re: Laney Hybrid + Fulltone OCD = AC/DC?

Ocd's are excellent rich sounding agressive dirt pedals.

Okay now here's the standard spiel that you were expecting re: sg's and marshalls:
*** **** **** *** * ***** **** ****** SG *** ******* **** Marshall.
There....i didnt say anything.....but you dont need a plexi....a jcm 800 will get you there, and so will a whole bunch of other all tube marshall amps and clones.

Failing that, then if you are forced to use pedals for crunch, then you are probably on the right track with the ocd. Other pedals to consider for a crunchy rock sound would be the MI crunch box or the cheaper option of a boss ds1 (even better when modified).

Re: Laney Hybrid + Fulltone OCD = AC/DC?

I've got a V.4 OCD and like it so far (had a only a few weeks). Dunno about the Laney hybrid amps, but an OCD through their all-tube amps should certainly be able to get AC/DC tones.

The best "plexi" pedal I've heard thus far has been the Rothwell Hellbender. That pedal seems to be able to take one from a clean or slightly overdriven tone, to full-on plexi territory. So I think it'd do ACDC just fine. The only thing that stopped me from getting one is that my main amp is a Bogner Shiva and it's pretty much already there, so I only use the OCD for just adding a touch of edge to my tone.

Re: Laney Hybrid + Fulltone OCD = AC/DC?

hi guys, thanks for all the replies.

Well, after searching more about ocd/acdc tone, i found the "lovepedal purple plexi", thus promises a hot plexi sound.
So, after listening for some demos at youtube of this pedal,i finally decided to purchase the clone of this pedal made by EFX effects, the "PURE PLEXI".

The demo can be listen here, if you want to.
When the pedal arrives i will post here my impressions.

edit: just fyi, the amp used on the demo is same as mine.

I had a Peavey Classic 30, and a 2007 Hiway 1 Tele, that straight in on the clean channel, and cranked, or on low gain on the gain channel, straight in, nailed the tone you're looking for. Simple, and cheap.

Maybe it was just the electrical current in Australia...

Re: Laney Hybrid + Fulltone OCD = AC/DC?

Having a bright PAF and an extremely dry tone to where its almost clean but breaks up is the key. Having a vintage voiced amp helps a lot too. Basically drop the gain A LOT and getting some strong hands will gey you there. Angus uses 9s to play easier I assume but Idk what Malcolm uses but the same is true for both as far as gain goes because I dont think Malcolm uses Marshalls. So as far as having to go Marshall its not as necessary as going really dry is because being really dry with gain gives you that open sounding and dynamic crunch.
