Laney LC30II-are they good?

Hi guys...need some advise here. At the moment, I'm plugging my MIJ 70s fender > visual sound jekyll hyde>Visual sound H2O for delay and chorus> AVT50. Although I can get quite a decent sound from the setup, I'm thinking of upgrading the amp to an all tube amp. A local guitar store has offered me the laney at quite an interesting price (approximately USD650). Any of you guys had any experience in using this amp? I can't make a decision as some reviews at harmony central indicates that its OD channel lacks in tone especially at high gain settings. Any advise please....?cheers

p/s I play blues, rock, maiden and other heavymetal stuff

Any tube amp with the J&H in front should sound great! Plus I think the Laney has an FX loop to put the H2O in.

Re: Laney LC30II-are they good?

I had an LC30II for a few years a while ago.

I ended up selling it and buying something that was more 'me'.

The amp sounded good, but it had more of a 'modern' voice than I personally prefer. It would've been a great amp for anyone that played more modern or heavy music, but for someone that was playing nothing but 'old man rock' :D it wasn't the amp for me.

1 thing I will say, if you do get 1 of these amps, try and get 1 with a Celestion speaker, as the HH Invader speaker mine had was totally horrid!

650 is alot for that amp.. are you in the states?

Both these amps will be as good or much better for cheaper-
Laney LC50
Laney TT50 combo

Im still itching to get ahold of a TT series amp. I originally tried for one before i got the VC50.

Thanks guys for your advise. Yeah I think this unit comes with a stock HH speaker. I had achance to test the amp but didn't past level 2 on the volume as it gets VERY loud and the store doesn't have any special room for that....I have to figure out if its really necessary to speaker as its preety hard to arrange that where I live and it gets too expensive. Is the speaker really that bad on high volume? By the way, I'm from Malaysia

I always found the HH speaker to be overly bright and very brittle sounding at higher volume levels, even with the bright switch off.

I tried turning down the Treble on the amp but then it just sounded dull and lifeless.

I'd be curious myself to try 1 with a better speaker, just to see if I didn't like the sound of the amp itself or if it was the speaker than made it horrible.
