Laney TF700?

Leveller

Anyone tried one of these? From the reviews I've read it seems pretty good (for a SolidState amp) and I can get it for cheap, with the cab probably about half as much as a JCM800 with cab would cost me (both used).
I need a pretty loud amp pretty fast for rehearsal and gigging, so unless you guys say it sucks donkey balls I'll probably get it. :)
Just something to get me by when I wait til I have enough to buy a good tube amp. :)

It doesnt suck.

Has a couple of options like mid boost and stuff.

Running thru a 1960 marshall cab it sounds great with single coils and humbuckers.

Good smooth tone to it. Pretty balanced clean channel.

Re: Laney TF700?

i'd rather get a valve amp in their LC or VC 30W range.. they're plenty loud and have a better tone, yet they are in about the same price range over here. maybe only a little bit more

Really that much Davey? The TF stuff is about 25% or more less here in the US. I guess you are right, if you are gonna go 75% of the way, you might as well go the rest.

How much is it going for Leveller? In the end, you need to play it and let your ears decide. :)

Jony, is it like a Valvestate with a Laney flavor to it? Valvestates aren't too bad, but they are pricey for what they are.
Could the TF get you into high-gain Randall territory? You know, tight transistor distortion with a valve in the pre for a bit of a fluctuating wave form. Just looking for a possible niche here.

i have one of the TF700 II's its a ok amp for the price. the single tube in it does help with the tone some. as far as the gain goes it has more of that fuzzy gain instead of the smooth tight gain that i prefer. i rather just use a pedal for the distortion.
