Re: Laney Tube Amps For Metal?

Well in the seventies he might have been using Marshalls ;)

A little bit, but not much. Marshalls were mostly in the 80s. He also used a Mesa Mark III for a couple of albums.

I thought he was big on Orange back in those early days?

He hated Orange. The only time he used them was for a music video shoot, and that's because they belonged to the club where the video was shot.

On topic....

The GH100TI sounds alot like a Mesa Mark III with a slightly more aggressive tone and a more British flavour to it. It was almost as aggressive as my Rectifier, was definatly tighter, and still had a big bottom end. It's also the loudest amp I've ever owned/used. It It sounds nothing like an 80s Marshall anything. If you can't get a metal tone from that amp you're simply too much of a p*ssy to be playing metal.

I like how he apologizes for his sloppy playing, then proceeds to smoke 99% of the guitarists out there.

Re: Laney Tube Amps For Metal?

Laney's can easily do metal (except maybe whining thin buzzy metal sounds) but I mean a brand with Tony Iommi having a signature amp has to be metal. These amps created metal and the new laney's are way more high gain then the 70's ones while still being organic and thick.

Re: Laney Tube Amps For Metal?

The best player I know runs dry into a Laney with his band. His band covered Holy Wars to perfection and the guy nailed all of Marty's leads.. I was in awe, but I digress.

Some of those Laneys are bad-ass.
